Is he racing with PCO? In this article, we decompress Berberine’s amazing (possible) benefits for PCOS symptoms.

Berberine is a supplement known for all health benefits, including its ability to reduce inflammation, balance blood sugar levels and lower insulin resistance. It is also considered a natural GLP-1 and can support weight loss efforts, thanks to its ability to mimic the GLP-1 hormone. With all these privileges, the supplement is also used in women’s health to help women manage PCOS symptoms.

What is PCOS?

“PCOS is a hormonal and metabolic disorder that affects the way a woman’s ovaries work,” says Dr. Sabrina Solt, NMD, Naturopathic physician and founder Professionals with stem cells. “It is often characterized by irregular periods, insulin resistance and increased androgens (male hormones), which can lead to symptoms such as weight gain, acne and excessive facial hair.”

According to Jennifer Nicole BianchiniMS, RD, IFNCP, Ryt, a dietitian and mind-body expert, PCOS is one of the most common endocrine disorders among women, but is also one of the most footnoted. He explains that about 4 to 10 percent of women of childbearing age have the situation, although many cases remain sub-diagnosed, having historically undergone a medical community. Dr. Nadia MusavvirNd, he says that some also submit to suggestions because they “do not” look “as if they fit the classic presentation of the symptoms” and are therefore rejected because appropriate evaluations are not made.

The link between blood sugar and PCOS

In addition to acne, facial hair and other common PCOS symptoms, the condition can also affect blood sugar regulation. Usually, the body uses insulin to move sugar from blood circulation to cells for energy or storage, says Bianchini. But in those with PCOS, the process is less effective. As a result, Bianchini says it can cause weight gain (especially around the abdomen), energy crashes, cravings and increase the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

How Berberine can support PCOS symptoms

Although there is no one-and-done treatment for PCOS, there are ways to support hormone balance and treat the symptoms of course. “Berberine is a vegetable compound that earns great attention to its potential role in supporting women with PCOS, especially because of its results in blood sugar balance, insulin sensitivity and inflammation,” says Bianchini.

According to research, Berberine can improve insulin sensitivity because it activates a path called AMPK (which Bianchini says is like the metabolic main switch of your body). This can help regulate the way the body uses and stores energy. “Berberine has been shown to help balance blood sugar and lower fasting insulin,” he explains. “Since most women with PCOS tend to experience insulin resistance. Berberine may be very beneficial.”

Frequently questions

Should people with PCOS get Berberine?

Those with PCOS can benefit from the addition of Berberine supplements such as Hum Nutrition Best of Berberine. “Berberine helps the goal of one of the main causes of PCOS: Resistance to insulin,” says Dr. Solt. “Improves insulin sensitivity. It reduces fasting glucose and can reduce circulating androgens,” he adds.

Does Berberine help with hormonal imbalance?

Taking a Berberine supplement can support hormone balancing efforts, but not entirely on its own. According to Dr. Solt, when used in parallel with other lifestyle upgrades (such as an animal -based diet and low inflammation, strength training and stress regulation), can “significantly improve symptoms such as irregular periods, weight gain and hormonal acne”. He notes that, for many women with PCOS, it is a fantastic way to bridge the gap between pharmaceuticals and lifestyle -based treatments.

The takeaway for the benefits of Berberine

Berberine is a supplement that can be used to support women with PCOS, thanks to its ability to target common symptoms of endocrine disorder, including inflammation, blood sugar imbalances and insulin sensitivity. Although not a cure – and should be combined with other lifestyle changes for best results – it can produce positive results and help women get control over their PCOS symptoms.
