With the snow melting and the flowers blooming, you know it’s time to put away your coats and jackets and bring out your dresses and skirts. The transition from winter to spring is a beautiful thing to experience. However, as the seasons change, you will begin to notice that your skin changes with it.

Your skin protects your entire body from external factors, which makes it sensitive. As the atmosphere and weather around you changes, so does your skin! So, as winter begins to fade and spring is just around the corner, it’s time to make some adjustments to your skincare routine! After all, we’re sure you want your skin to look its best all year round.

Here are some tips to help you switch up your skincare routine to make it more spring-friendly.

Change your cleanser

Gels and foam cleansers may have been too harsh on your skin in winters. However, spring is the perfect time to bring them back! Foaming cleansers can dry out your skin quite a bit, so they are not recommended for winter use. But as the weather warms up, they serve as a fantastic way to get rid of all the dirt, grime and grime that builds up on your skin.

A deep cleansing gel or foaming cleansers also help remove excess oil and shine from your skin. When choosing a cleanser, remember to choose one that contains a mild exfoliant, such as salicylic acid, to ensure that dirt and grime are removed directly from your pores.

Reach for something lighter

The cold winds of winter dry out your skin, which often leads to cracking. So, it’s natural to use a thick cream or lotion on your face morning and night during winter to keep your dry skin hydrated. However, once the heat and humidity start to set in, it’s time to turn your attention to something lighter.

Your skin naturally tends to become oilier in hot weather, leading to an overproduction of natural oils, which not only clog pores, but also cause blemishes and lead to shiny skin. This doesn’t mean you stop moisturizing your skin completely. Your skin needs moisture in every way. The best option for you is to switch to a lightweight face cream to keep your skin hydrated and protected.

You need to make sure you choose an oil-free moisturizer that keeps your sebum under control. Try ML Delicate Beauty’s Retinol Moisturizer and see the wonders it will do for your skin. This retinol moisturizer contains just the right amount of retinol to control sebum, preventing acne and signs of aging. Also, it’s best to stick to a minimal makeup trend as the weather warms up. Ditch any heavy or thick foundations and opt for a lightweight BB cream or a tinted moisturizer with SPF.

Don’t neglect the area under your eyes

Spring allergies are no joke! They are very real and very disturbing. Pollen and debris in the air will not only make you sneeze like crazy, but it can also leave you with a lot of puffiness under your eyes. The key to controlling this puffiness is to control your allergies and add a decongestant eye cream to your skin care routine. Just dab a little under and around your eyes, especially before going to bed. Also, remember to store your eye cream in the fridge and apply it cold as this will soothe your eyes and help you get rid of under eye bags temporarily.

Adjust your serum to the season

Serums are a vital part of your skincare routine. Your skin will need a little extra hydration and toning to withstand the changing weather, and what better way to do it than with a serum! As the temperature rises, you’ll notice that your skin becomes oilier, which naturally leads to more clogged pores, acne, and blemishes. A Vit C serum will do the trick and make the transition to your skin much easier! Check out ML Delicate Beauty Anti-Aging Vitamin C Serum. It will provide your skin with all the hydration it needs to withstand the humid environment while keeping the signs of aging at bay!

Give your skin an antioxidant boost

Whether the weather is cold or hot, antioxidants are vital for your skin. However, hot weather can be quite draining on the skin as it causes moisture loss. In addition, exposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays also increases the chances of premature aging. So your skin may need an extra boost of antioxidants in the spring.

Not only should you use a moisturizer packed with antioxidants, but you should also include it in every step of your skincare routine.

Giving your skin an antioxidant boost is a key element in a good skincare routine, as antioxidants play a key role in protecting the skin from environmental stressors like pollution and UV rays. These stressors create free radicals, unstable molecules that can damage the skin, leading to premature aging, dullness and increased risk of skin conditions.

Antioxidants neutralize these free radicals, thus helping to prevent cell damage. Incorporating skin care products rich in antioxidants such as vitamins C and E, ferulic acid, resveratrol and green tea extract can significantly improve skin resilience and overall health. Vitamin C is especially known for its ability to lighten the skin, boost collagen production and reduce the appearance of dark spots. Using a daily antioxidant serum can provide a concentrated dose of these beneficial compounds.

Additionally, adopting a diet rich in antioxidant-rich foods such as berries, nuts and leafy greens can support skin health from the inside out. By prioritizing antioxidants in both your skincare and nutrition, you give your skin the tools it needs to fight environmental stressors while maintaining its health, vitality and youthful appearance.

Don’t forget to exfoliate

Winter can make your skin soften quite a bit, leaving it dull. However, you can beat that winter dullness by using an exfoliator! An exfoliating scrub or chemical peel can help you get rid of dead skin cells from the top layer of your skin, leaving you with new and renewed skin cells that make your skin look brighter and more vibrant.

You don’t need to exfoliate your face on a daily basis, but you should make sure to do it at least two or three times a week. If exfoliating scrubs are too harsh for your skin, you can opt for a chemical scrub that contains glycolic acid or lactic acid to get rid of dead skin cells.

Soothe irritation with a face mask

Changes in temperature can end up throwing your skin out of balance. It will leave your skin red, irritated and itchy. A great solution to soften your skin would be to use a mask for sensitive skin. These easy-to-use masks can give you a spa-like facial in the comfort of your own home.

There are various face masks that can help treat various skin problems. Masks with minerals are great for keeping your skin energized on a weekly basis, exfoliating masks with alpha-hydroxy acids can help get rid of dead skin cells, leaving your skin brighter and hydrating masks can to moisturize and hydrate your skin.

Add an extra layer of protection

While winters are a great time to allow your skin to repair itself, the warmer months are a good time to adopt preventative skincare measures. With the sun shining right overhead, you’ll need to add SPF to your daily skincare routine. Sunscreen will help protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays that lead to premature aging, acne, and even skin cancer.

Another option for you is to lather up with a moisturizer with built-in SPF. The minimum SPF that your sunscreen or moisturizer should contain is between 15 and 20. If you find that the SPF becomes too greasy for your skin, you should choose a moisturizer that contains polyphenols, as they provide a natural SPF protection.
