This Week in Health & Performance: What the latest research says

🫀 Heart diagnostics with artificial intelligence are coming: SandboxAQ has just announced a collaboration with the Mayo Clinic to explore advanced AI-driven magnetocardiography (MCG) for cardiac diagnostics. If successful, this technology could enable detailed “imaging” of the heart without invasive CT scans or angiography—a major upgrade for early detection and safer screening (read more here).

🧠 Exercise is a hormone delivery system to the brain: New research shows that exercise floods the brain with beneficial hormones that affect pain relief, stress resilience, metabolism, inflammation and mental health. Vigorous exercise has been shown to provide up to 4 times more of these brain-targeted signals, implying future therapies that mimic exercise (study here).

🥩 Red Meat and Ulcerative Colitis—Read the Fine Print: The headlines claim that red meat “causes” ulcerative colitis, but the data comes from observational studies with zero quality control of meat procurement or processing. This serves as a reminder that correlation does not equal causation and that study design should always be considered before buying the hype (study here).

⚡ Antioxidants and Exercise—Why Age Matters: Oxidative stress helps with training adaptation, so antioxidants can moderate gains smaller adults. But for exercisers over age 55, new data suggest that antioxidants may actually support adaptations, likely because aging increases baseline oxidative load.read the study).

Key Takeaway: Context is everything. From AI-powered heart scans to exercise hormones, meat studies and antioxidant time, the real benefits come from understanding WHERE a strategy is for, when to use it and how it suits your physiology.

Product of the Week

::: Lose weight with Lumen (no power loss) + 10% discount. :::

Lighting unitI’ve seen endless diets and weight loss drugs that promise quick results, but many of them come with a hidden cost: loss of strength, muscle loss, and a slower metabolism over time.

So people end up hitting plateaus, feeling weaker, and eventually rebounding. This is not real health. This is a metabolic trade-off.

This is exactly why I love Metabolic Health Coach Lighting unit. I use Lumen to train my body to burn more fat while maintaining muscle and restoring true metabolic flexibility.

With a single breath, Lighting unit measures how your body is fueled and creates a personalized meal plan that prioritizes protein, supports lean mass, and teaches your metabolism when to burn fat versus carbs.

It also guides you through smart fasting strategies and proper pre-workout nutrition so you don’t sacrifice muscle or performance in the name of weight loss.

The result is better body composition and long-term metabolic health – two of the biggest factors in longevity, functional aging and sustained performance.

Lumen’s New Year Sale is live and my community gets an extra 10% off with code BGFitness at checkout here.
