In a recent study published in JAMA Internal Medicineresearchers determined the relationship between animal and vegetable fat intake and mortality from cardiovascular disease (CVD) and other causes. Study: Vegetable and animal fat intake and total mortality and cardiovascular disease. Image credit: Carey Jaman/Shutterstock.com Background Dietary fats are crucial for the maintenance of cell membranes and metabolic fuel, the absorption and transport of fat-soluble vitamins, the regulation of ion channel activities, and the regulation of signal transduction. Vegetable fats contain more monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, while animal fats are higher in saturated fat. There is increased scientific interest in the effects…

Microchimerism is a small population of cells that arise from fetal microchimerism (FMc) and maternal microchimerism (MMc). While fetal microchimerism is the presence and persistence of fetal cells in maternal tissues, maternal microchimerism (MMc) is the presence of maternal cells in fetal tissues. Maternal fetal microchimerism Fetal stem cells can migrate across the placenta to enter the mother’s bone marrow. Embryonic progenitor stem cell transfer begins 4 or 5 days immediately after fertilization and goes along with all stages of pregnancy. Microchimerism of this kind occurs in both male and female embryos. However, due to the presence of Y chromosomes…

In a recent study published in the journal Advances in Scienceresearchers in Sweden conducted virtual screens of more than 16 million compounds using multi-receptor models developed by AlphaFold and homology modeling techniques. These models were based on different protein structures to identify trace amine-associated receptor 1 (TAAR1) agonists for the potential treatment of various neuropsychiatric conditions. They found that the AlphaFold-based screen had a higher success rate and helped discover potent TAAR1 agonists, leading to a promising drug candidate that showed physiological effects in mice. Study: AlphaFold accelerates discovery of psychotropic agonists targeting trace amine-related receptor 1. Image credit: Corona…

Part 3 In Part 1, I shared my challenges with depression, the fact that the suicide rate for men is much higher than for women, and how these events have affected men and their families. In Part 2, I looked deeper into the underlying causes and possible solutions to this global problem. In Part 3, I’ll build on an evolutionary understanding and how it can help us address the main problems of male violence, both inwardly and outwardly directed. We don’t often think of suicide as a form of violence or depression as an underlying cause of violence, but they…

While muscles need protein for optimal recovery, neglecting to support our connective tissues with the right type and amount of collagen can lead to weakness and injury. THE The risk is particularly high among highly active individuals who engage in high-impact and vigorous or high-volume and repetitive activities. Tendons, which connect muscles to bones, and ligaments, which connect bones to other bones to provide joint stability, are primarily composed of these tough and durable collagen fibers. This robust form of tissue can withstand considerable force and tension. However, without adequate recovery and ongoing damage from overload or chronic repetitive strain,…
