Prostate cancer and erectile dysfunction

Prostate cancer is, unfortunately, a common diagnosis for men, especially as they grow older. Along with this situation, many men also face a decrease in sexual function as part of the aging process. For men diagnosed with prostate cancer, treatments are usually aggressive to ensure that cancer is eliminated. However, an important side effect of many treatments for prostate cancer – particularly surgical treatments such as prostatectomy – is erectile dysfunction (ED).

Here, we explore the relationship between the treatments of prostate cancer and ED and discuss various options to manage this situation effectively.

How prostate cancer treatments affect erectile function

A common and effective treatment for prostate cancer is a prostatectomy, a surgery to remove the prostate gland. While prostatectomy can be salvation, it often affects erectile function. Many medical professionals can ensure patients that developments such as robotic surgeries (eg the Da Vinci robotic system) can minimize nerve damage and maintain sexual function. However, despite these technological developments, erectile dysfunction remains a common side effect for many men after surgery.

This does not mean that men should avoid the necessary treatments, but it is important to understand the probability of the ED and the options available to recover sexual function if it happens.

Posttending erectile dysfunction: Understanding your choices

While some doctors can suggest a penis implant as a solution for ED after a prostatectomy, there are several other effective treatments to be examined first. These treatments have shown great success by helping men restore erectile function without resorting to implants:

1. PDE5 inhibitors

Medicines such as Viagra, Cialis, Levitra and Stendra belong to a class known as PDE5 inhibitors. These drugs work by enhancing blood flow to the penis, which can help some men achieve erections. While these medicines work well for many, they may not be as effective for men with nervous damage to prostatectomy.

2. Trimix injections

Shot Trimix is an extremely effective alternative to men who do not respond to oral medicines. This injection is given directly to the penis, providing a strong and immediate way to achieve an erection. Trimix has shown excellent results, especially for men experiencing EDs after prostate surgery, and is safe and reliable.

3. Plasma-rich plasma treatment (PRP) or “P-shot”

P-shot is a regenerative treatment that uses platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from the patient’s blood to stimulate blood flow and repair of tissue on the penis. This treatment can help improve the overall health of penis tissue and promote the best erectile function. It is an excellent choice for men looking for a natural approach to support recovery after prostate surgery.

4. Libido shot

Another innovative treatment is the taking of libido, which works by stimulating the central nervous system and the targeting of nerves responsible for erections. This treatment enhances nerve response, helping men who may have lost some nervous function after surgery.

Taking over your sexual health after prostate cancer

The experience of erectile dysfunction after treatment of prostate cancer is common, but it does not need to be a permanent part of your life. You have options and many of these treatments are safe, effective and minimally invasive. Whether you are interested in medication, injections or regenerative treatments, the most important thing is to find out and activate your health.

At the Phoenix Men Health Center, we specialize in providing a series of men’s health services to support you through this trip. From the treatment of erectile dysfunction and the treatment of testosterone in anti -aging solutions, we are here to help you regain your health and trust.

Remember: There is hope

Your sexual health and function are an integral part of your identity, relationships and quality of life. If you are experiencing ED after treatment of prostate cancer, do not give up hope. Explore your choices, train yourself and contact a health provider that can guide you on the right therapeutic path.
