I’m sharing English breakfast muffin ideas, from sweet to savory, including my signature fig jam creation!

Who doesn’t love English muffins, with their corners made for butter and jam!?

What makes English muffins truly unique is their versatility. They act as a great alternative to richer options like brioche, offering a lighter but still satisfying experience. With fewer calories and less fat, it’s a tasty source of carbs that won’t weigh you down as you start your day.

But it’s not just the nutritional benefits. English muffins are delicious enough on their own (I love this Boston-based brand!). Their subtle sweetness pairs beautifully with a variety of flavors, from savory to sweet. Whether it’s toasted and slathered with butter and jam or used as the base for a savory breakfast sandwich, it’s up to you and your taste buds.

Today I’m sharing a collection of English breakfast muffin ideas that are not only delicious but also incredibly easy to prepare. From classic combinations to creative twists, these recipes showcase the endless possibilities of this breakfast staple. Get your toaster…!

10 English Muffin Breakfast Ideas

1. Eggs Benedict – Baker By Nature

With golden toasted English muffins, poached eggs, slices of Canadian bacon and hollandaise sauce, this Eggs Benedict recipe is absolute perfection! Garnish with freshly chopped dill and onion or simply serve with salt and pepper. Perfect for any special breakfast or brunch at home!

2. Breakfast sandwich meal preparation – Pinch of Yum

Your breakfast egg sandwich – meal prep style! Bake your eggs in a pan with bacon and spinach, put them on an English muffin with some cheese and store them in the freezer for a week. SO WELL.

3. English Muffin French Toast – The convenience of cooking

Fluffy, syrupy and delicious English Muffin French Toast! Drizzle with butter, top with berries and sprinkle with powdered sugar for a decadent weekend breakfast.

4. Breakfast sandwich with omelette and avocado – Food & wine

This simple and satisfying breakfast sandwich recipe calls for the use of American cheese, but it’s just as delicious with gruyere or sharp cheddar cheese. A dash of vinegary hot sauce is a great addition!

5. Baking breakfast English muffins – Girl vs Dough

This hearty, layered breakfast casserole features fluffy eggs, sharp cheddar cheese, sauteed kale and sausage, and English muffin cubes for an all-in-one meal that’s just as good for breakfast as it is for dinner. It’s super easy to make and perfect for school days!

7. Cream Cheese & Salmon Lox English Muffins

Spread a toasted sourdough English muffin with cream cheese and top with smoked salmon and fresh dill. Add fresh microgreens if you’re feeling fancy!

8. English Muffin Hummus & Cucumber

Craving something light and fresh? Spread an English muffin with your favorite hummus, cucumber slices and sprinkle with everything but Bagel Seasoning.

9. PB&J English Muffins

I couldn’t pass up this classic! And a favorite for children too. Spread an English muffin with peanut butter (or almond butter!) and your favorite jam/preserve. Peanut butter with banana slices and cinnamon is another passion!

10. English Muffin Breakfast Sandwich with egg, cheese & fig jam – my creation!

Back in the early days of blogging I was making lunch boxes, eating cheese and jam sandwiches! I absolutely love thick slabs of cheddar cheese and the sweetness of the cheese with the jam is the perfect combination. I usually add some spinach or arugula to the sandwich for some green too. This English Muffin Breakfast Sandwich brings the same combination to your breakfasts as a fried egg packed! You need to slice your cheese coarsely (you want to keep its texture instead of melting) and these Stone Wheat English Muffins they are the best ever.

Instructions

Step 1

English Muffin Toast.

Step 2

Fry an egg of your choice. Tip: pierce the yolk so it cooks and doesn’t finish. And don’t forget to season with salt and pepper.

Step 3

Spread a toasted English muffin with fig jam and add a few thick slices of sharp cheddar cheese. Add a handful of fresh rocket.

Step 4

Add the egg to your English muffin.
