Why Pcos May Find It Difficult To Find

Vaginal dryness. Right, we said it in advance and overcome it. It is not the sexiest of themes, but one that is close to our hearts as sexual well -being experts – especially this month of awareness of polycystic ovary syndrome. PCOS affects about 1 in 10 of us who have ovaries and while you may have heard of symptoms, including irregular periods and excessive hair growth, one of its least discussed effects is vaginal dryness. Let’s dive into why this is happening and what you can really do for it …

The scientist

PCOS is basically your hormones that throw an absolute stroke. Your body produces higher levels of androgen (think testosterone), which mixes with estrogen production. And estrogen? This is the best friend of your vagina when you are going to stay naturally fat. When the estrogen falls, your vaginal tissues, especially the inner lips, become thinner, less elastic and drier. It also means that these sensitive tissues are more sensitive and prone to irritation, so taking it, masterbating or even putting a tampon can really feel painful.

“Why can’t I get wet?”

When your body’s natural lubrication goes on strike, sex can feel like sandpaper against silk. You can also experience daily itching, pain and increased risk of UTI. This is not only natural. Finding is hard to find of course you may lose your head seriously, making you feel frustrated or disconnected by your body. Let’s put a myth to rest: Everyone, at any age, can experience vaginal dryness, even when they are activated. They are often stereotypes as something that only happens to menopause (rude) and we have heard from the younger members of our community that this misconception has made them feel even worse for themselves. If you were to avoid sex or intimacy for fear of vaginal pain, you are not alone. These concerns are completely valid and more common than you think. So we’re here to say: Don’t panic. There are things you can do to support your natural lubrication and restore sex to the menu.

How to handle PCOS vaginal dryness

Lube is your best friend: Water -based lubricants are changing in the game. The NHS recommends them because they are really kind, exactly what you need if you are painful there. With our co -founder and Gynae Dr Sarah Welsh expert, we developed our water -based lubricant specifically for sensitive skin. Whether you experience dryness associated with PCOS hormonal changes, childbirth or menopause, apply a pump or two liberation to toys, fingers or penis before any penetrating activity and do not be ashamed to apply the middle fun.

Daily humidity: Vaginal moisturizing agents (other than lubricant) can be used regularly to maintain moisture levels. Think of them as a daily skin care routine of your skin, but for your vagina. Chat with your GP or gynecologist to find out more if they may be appropriate for you.

Power in lifestyle: We all carry stanley cups around, but we really get enough wet? The NHS recommends 6-8 glasses a day (which may include diluted pumpkins without sugar, tea and coffee, but of course the water is king) to stay hydrated and smiling and scrapes or showers. Your vulva needs soft, indifferent care. As Dr. Sara always tells us: Pure water and if really necessary, a mild soap is all you need.

Finally, reduction in stress can also have a positive effect, not only in vaginal lubrication. The work, relationship or general stress of life increases the hormone cortisol that can lead to a decrease in estrogen. As we have explored above, estrogen is vital to vaginal humidity, so hit a podcast mentality and take measures to minimize intensity and stress where you can.

When to see your GP: Do not suffer silently. Vaginal dryness can have a significant impact on the pleasure and enjoyment of sex – and this is a very valid reason to speak with a healthcare provider. Book an appointment if you find that making lifestyle changes has no effect after a few weeks or if you have unusual discharge or bleeding or dryness significantly affects your daily life, e.g. It hurts to walk.

The bottom line

PCOS can confuse with your hormones, but vaginal dryness does not need to sign your sex life forever. With the help of a good water-based fat (Hi, Hanx), proper medical support and self-care, you can enjoy a pleasant sex life when you live with PCOS.
