Whether we protect our skin from the sun or protect it from aging of gravity, it sometimes feels that our skin is under attack on all sides. And in today’s world-working from home, scrolling on our phones or watching our favorite shows-there is another factor to be examined: Blue Light exposure. This high -energy light (Hev) does not only come from the sun. It is also fulfilled by phones, computers, televisions and even interior lighting. This means that our skin is exposed to possible damage for most of the day, every day.

But how harmful is artificial blue light and what can you do to protect your skin? Here’s everything you need to know.

What is blue light?

The blue light is just light on the blue end of the visible light spectrumfalling within the wavelength of 400 to 450 nanometers. It is a short wavelength that has a higher energy efficiency and unfortunately can cause greater damage to the skin. As already mentioned, Blue Light is not only in the sunlight, but equally important, it also emits electronic devices that are now integrated into the daily lives of most people. According to Eminence Organics International Trainer Brian GoodwinWe are “typically exposed to blue light for over 13 hours a day between your mobile phone and your computer display.” With the long, daily exposure duration and high skin damage potential, blue light could be the next top enemy for our skin’s health.

All you need to know about blue light

What do we know about the dangers of blue light?

Blue Light began to receive a bad rap when people observed its connection to poor sleep quality. The evening hours in bed rolled through your phone led to anxious nights and scientists soon discovered why. According to Harvard’s healthBlue light at night suppresses melatonin secretion, the hormone that affects the circadian rhythms that plan the sleep/wake cycle. With a cycle of sleeping, many people do not have enough sleep, leaving them open to health problems such as depression, diabetes and cardiovascular problems.

A restful night is not the only thing in danger. Exposure to blue light in the eyes was one of the other potential problems that professionals were first identified. The cornea and the lens do not filter the blue light, so it goes right on the back of the eye. And one Study of the University of Toledo It was discovered that the blue light “transforms vital molecules into the retina of the eye into cellular killers that damage the retina”, resulting in conditions such as macular degeneration. Although the experiments were conducted only in a laboratory environment and not in the eyes, the ability to damage the blue light seems problematic.

Why is blue light harmful to your skin?

With Blue Light that manufactures waves in the sleeping and eye area, it is not surprising that the potentially harmful effects have also been discovered on skin health. In contrast to other Environmental factors for the skin for the skin (such as sunlight and UV rays) there is no heat and no burning.

But, don’t let the lack of immediate effects fool you. Visible light, especially at the blue wavelength, has become a hot theme in skin care, as there are increasing evidence that supports its contribution to photo-raining, including wrinkles, deterioration of skin purity and over-coloring.

Visible light, especially at the blue wavelength, has become a hot theme in skin care, as there are increasing evidence that supports its contribution to photo-raining, including wrinkles, deterioration of skin purity and over-coloring.

Inflammation and free radicals

Academic studies such as Journal of Research Dermatology In 2010 he found that exposure of the skin to the blue light we receive from the sun caused more pigment, redness and swelling than when the skin of the same person was exposed to similar levels of UVA rays. A 2015 study published in Oxidative medicine and cellular longevity He also found that the exposure of blue light stimulates the production of free radicals on the skin, accelerating the visible signs of aging. The free radicals produced create unstable molecules, leading to inflammation that attacks the cells.

So if we know that blue light is a risk to our skin, how does it really damage and what are the results? When blue light accentuates the skin, it reacts with the production of inflammation, leading to edema and redness.

Free radicals are also produced that damage the skin with DNA destruction and lead to weakened collagen and elastin. With compromised collagen and elastin, the skin becomes heterogeneous and forms lines and wrinkles. Free radical damage also causes Over -coloring, leading to more signs of aging as dark spots.

In summary, Brian describes the alarming reaction of our body to blue light: “The skin responds immediately by protecting itself with inflammation that gives signs of swelling and redness … This begins a chain of other events that have symptoms of the skin such as the skin and the over -the -top.”

So how do we protect our skin if it sits in front of our devices for the majority of the day?

Cocoa Seed Extract: the skin protector blue light skin

Researchers have discovered that the concentrated natural cocoa seed extract deals with the skin from the damage of blue light because it helps to involve the blue light receptor cell. The decrease in cellular activity in these blue light receptors reduces the damage to the free radicals and enhances the production of collagen and elastin on the skin.

This unique extract contains three beneficial, natural counterparties. These are peptides, saccharides and antioxidants. Together, they face the negative effects of blue light, such as collagen breakdown, Elastin degradation and over -coloring.

The peptides found in cocoa seed extract are a chain of amino acids that help protect the skin from blue light stress, as well as enhance collagen and enhance elastin. Polyphenols are groups of organic compounds that have antioxidant benefits for the skin, protecting the skin from free radicals created by blue light. Finally, sugars are sugars that attract water to the skin, help prevent and treat the possible dehydration caused by the exposure of blue light.

At Eminence Organic Skin Care, we have formulated a series of SPF moisturizing media that are free from silicone, use zinc oxide technology and helping environmental stressors. From our latest SPF Moisturizers range, some in particular help with the appearance of the skin exposed to blue light.
