With just a few days left in 2025, it’s almost time to start a new year. And the first week of 2026 is busy with Mercury moving into Capricorn, Chiron going direct and a full moon in Cancer. Here is your horoscope.

The moon is in stormy, social Gemini on Wednesday, New Year’s Eve

With the moon shining in Gemini, New Year’s Eve will be as colorful as the ROYGBIV rainbow (with a few splashes of neon thrown in just for reasons). You don’t have to wait until Wednesday night to prepare the feast. the first cork could pop on Saturday.

A mimosa toast and a day of shopping for vintage dresses and plush tuxedos? Yes, please! The Gemini moon brings a much-needed dose of cheerfulness at the end of a difficult year. When your team sits down for your multiple coffee and cupcake breaks (because…Gemini moon), do a round robin and brainstorm your 2025 highlight reel.

What were the biggest hits of the year and what would you like to leave in the mirror for good? Since Gemini rules verbal communication, talking will be therapeutic—and as an added bonus, it could bring some comic relief to heavy situations.

Hey, if 2025 taught us anything, it’s the power of a good meme! And after a year of dramatic splits, it’s sweetly symbolic to have Gemini calling for common ground as we count down to midnight — and a “1 year” in numerology! (2+0+2+6=10, 1+0=1)

Goal, goal, goal! Mindful Mercury lands in Capricorn on Thursday, New Year’s Day

We’re talking about timing! After a meditative morning, intellectual Mercury marches into goal-setting Capricorn at 4:11 p.m. EST, revitalizing your decisions. Nestled in this stoic sign, Mercury helps you plan, strategize and negotiate with a bigger game on the horizon.

That doesn’t mean you have to give up on your lofty visions for 2026. With the sheer precision of Capricorn, you can set those dreams on a realistic timeline. Do you have an “impossible” goal for the year? Break it down into phases with defined milestones and watch it feel totally doable!

Reach out to mentors and invest in some expert training (in all of the Capricorn field) to fill in the gaps. Not ready to be so linear on the first day of the year? There’s no rush – Mercury has been in Capricorn for almost three weeks.

Wounded healer comet Chiron completes its Aries retrograde on Friday, January 2

Speak up! The healing comet Chiron, which has been retrograde since July 30, 2025, moves into fiery Aries. While Chiron helps you identify your needs and support them, there may have been some messy attempts.

Reminder: What qualifies as assertive to one person may be aggressive to another. Starting today, look for healthy ways to access the conviction that lies beneath your anger and rage. Is there a core value, a belief that you feel has been violated? Take the time to recognize this before confronting someone.

At best, you can have a productive conversation instead of a fight. Learning long-standing techniques like nonviolent communication or the three-step Imago dialogue (mirroring, validating, empathizing) could transform a relationship that is veering into toxic waters. That said, if you’re dealing with narcissism (a shadowy Aries trait) or an abusive dynamic, the best form of healing may come through rebuilding your self-esteem outside of that particular relationship.

In mythology, Chiron revived himself to heal others. What you learn could end up being a golden lesson that you share with others down the line.

The first full moon of the year is in Cancer this Saturday, January 3rd

Feel those feelings! The first full moon of the year (5:03am EST; 13°02′) arrives in nurturing Cancer, bringing out the sparkle of the holidays…or the aftermath. Cancer is the sign of home and family, and the ‘holiday season’ can get quite heated around these issues.

Whether you feel nostalgic or resentful, the feelings this moonlight evokes will be anything but mild. With the moon opposing peacemaker Venus and combative Mars (both in Capricorn), your raw emotions could manifest as an outburst of anger, a flood of tears, or even extreme fatigue.

Since it’s the weekend, sleep in if you can or do something cathartic and relaxing. Ask for advice from a friend or relative you care about, or pour yourself a cup of tea and fill up a few journal pages. Does your personal space look like a disaster zone of gift wrap and half-empty suitcases? Use this domestic full moon to put things back in order.
