Newsmedical and Vikram Devgan are discussing how Bruker promotes the live functional analysis of a cell, helping to accelerate and beyond the immune discoveries.

How has a cell research evolved over the last two decades?

Over the past 20 years, a cell research has evolved from the detection of cell types using flow cytometry in the disclosure of molecular heterogeneity through multiple cells and, more recently, tissue understanding with spatial biology.

Now, the field is shifting to function, revealing what cells do, such as secreting biometers, killing target cells or interaction with real -time neighbors. These are the new borders and are exactly where the Bruker cell analysis is focused.

Can you enter Bruker Cellular Analysis and your mission in the field of life science?

In Bruker cell analysis, our mission is to allow researchers to overcome static snapshots of cell identity and dynamic cellular behavior. We focus on the functional analysis of living individual cells in real time.

Our platforms, fueled by privately owned visual technology, help scientists explore multimodal and time cellular responses. We support critical applications such as immune profile, cellular therapy development, antibody discovery and antibody profiles. With the release of Beacon Discovery™We extend access to these profound knowledge through an accessible, compact and cost -effective platform.

What inspired the development of beacon discovery™;

Our existing lighthouse® The platforms were designed for a large scale biofarim, but we heard a clear need for researchers in academic and translation environments: they wanted the same depth of functional insight, but in a more flexible form of benchtop.

Discovery™ was built to meet this need.

It provides the deeper functional knowledge from the living individual cells, in a footprint, the price point and the operating costs that makes it widely accessible. It offers excellent control, supports customized workflows and has an intuitive environment, making it easier than ever to design and run complex functional experiments.

Why is live functional analysis so important to today’s researchers?

Traditional platforms of a cell tell you mainly what a cell expresses, such as genes and proteins. But they don’t show you what the cell really does. In areas such as immuno-oncology, infectious disease, autoimmune disease and regenerative medicine, function are important. Does a T cell kill a target? Is it multifaceted? Does a B cell secrete a strong, specific antibody? Is a cell actively interacting with others or responds to a stimulus?

The Beacon Discovery gives researchers the tools to ask and answer these questions in real time by performing multiple successive tests in the same individual cells at multiple times. It is no longer enough to study the cells in static state. Biology is dynamic and our tools should also be.

What kind of research work flows support the Beacon Discovery Support?

We see fascinating work on profile and cell development all the way from car/TCR discovery to preclinical tests and validation in the discovery of translation biomarkers. Researchers perform multiple functional tests to characterize cytotoxic activity, cytokine secretion, activation, exhaustion and perseverance, all from the same living individual cells and then following the TCR sequence in the same cells.

Beacon Discovery really shines in the discovery of antibodies. Scientists can project thousands of B cells from various apartments and species, without fusion, characteristic assessment such as specialty, affinity, cross -reaction, blockage, internalization and agonizing. It is a complete flow of work that dramatically reduces time to lead candidates and improves the quality of candidates.

How do beacon Discovery technically allows this functional viewing?

It all starts with OPTO-Electrical Positioning (OEP) technology, which moves gently individual living cells to Optoselect® chip. Researchers then run multipliced, successive tests, such as cytokin secretion, cell killing or target engaging in the same cell as time. Once a cell is detected, it can be extracted for sequence, connecting the function to the molecular identity.

This is the way we also provide a rapid, functional B cell profile with the discovery of the lighthouse, the researchers receive a functional sorting of B cells in one day, sequences of antibodies in a week and lead candidates in less than a month, while carrying less.

What puts the Beacon discovery in addition to other antibody discovery platforms on the market?

There are three advantages in the system that help to distinguish it from others in the market:

  1. Width and depth of operating examination -We set a variety of B cell sources between species and tissues, without the need for cell fusion and offering high efficiency capabilities.
  2. Quality of Determination -The beacon Discovery supports multiplexed, multimodal, functional first tests. This means that you are not only defining the connectors, you find inhibitors, militants and real operating guides.
  3. Efficiency -The platform rationalizes the timetables and reduces costs by providing one -day work flows, full sequences in a week and leads candidates to less than a month. With less false positives, teams can make faster, more confident go/no-go decisions.

How do researchers interact with the system daily? Is it accessible for non -mechanical or non -developers?

Absolutely. We made the Beacon Discovery with knowledge of usability. The interface includes a Wizard Work Flow Builder to help design multiple element experiments in just a few clicks. The cell analysis software suite allows real -time data to explore, image -based resolution and functional mapping such as UMAP.

Whether you are Ph.D. Student or an experienced immunologist, you can quickly plan experiments, analyze data and make decisions. This simplicity was a deliberate design goal.

What impact do you hope for Beacon Discovery in the coming years?

We believe that Beacon Discovery will overthrow a significant shift in the way the scientific community approaches the analysis of a cell: from identity to function. By making it easier to perform rich, functional tests in live individual cells, we help researchers to gain better knowledge faster, or recognize strong T cells, discover therapeutic antibodies or reveal new biomarkers.

This is the platform that enables researchers to experience the full potential of a cell’s functional analysis, unlocking biological knowledge that cannot reveal static methods.
