Welcome to another dose of Better2Know’s patients.

At Better2 we know, we believe that the exchange of personal experiences can help to break the stigma that many people feel about being tested for STDs. We have gathered stories from people who have been tested to inspire and encourage others to take this important step for their sexual health.

Some names and details in these stories have been amended for privacy.

If you have had sex and worry about STD, Better2King is here to help.

“It was an issue that I had to deal with. You hear about these things that happen to other people and you think, what is the trouble? But when it happens to you, it becomes so real.

Izzi is not the kind of person you would expect to be so open to talk to try for STD. When Better2Know first talked to her over a video call, she had her makeup fully complete and wearing a blue floral dress, as if she were ready to spend a night with friends on a patio. She is a soft speech and her answers are tight and cut, as if she is ready to say something that is not sure she should.

“Sorry,” she said, pulling her hands on her face. “This is difficult.”

Izzi’s story began when it was in its twenties. He took a group vacation in Amsterdam, where she met a history teacher named Rolf through one of her cousins who lived in Rotterdam. They met one night at a bar outside a tram stop, as string lights began to flicker, marking the end of the day at 6 pm

“It seemed really interesting, I think we shared a sense of humor, he said his uncle was an animator in Finland who worked at Moomins, I liked Moomins as a child, after he told me we were far away.”

Izzi ended up expanding her vacation from four days to seven. He stayed with Rolf in a small apartment overlooking a channel and a small square, where an orchestra gave free concerts.

“I had never done that before, it’s not like me. I don’t think I would do it again, my manager told me at work! By the end, I had this strange feeling about the whole thing and I was ready to go home.

Izzi and Rolf have kept in touch in the coming months, always planning to meet again, but they never reach it. Eventually, the journey retreated from her mind and continued with her life.

“It was an issue that I had to deal with what you hear about these things that happen to other people and you think, who’s the trouble? But when it happens to you, it’s so real.”

“I remember at the moment that it was important to take a test to find out if I had got something. I got one, but it was negative. So I didn’t think about it too long after that.”

Izzi returned to London, an academic publisher as a editorial assistant. But six months after her trip, she met Tim, a mechanical from Flintshire.

“Tim felt very strongly for the two of us to try before we [got physical]. I don’t mind. I told him I had tried recently but I could do it if [it would make him happy]. He said that his mother has always pierced him to use protection, to try as much as possible, after taking hepatitis at a point in her life. I was not worried, since I was negative for the first time. ”

However, Izzi’s cases were wrong. It was tested with a private service and when the results returned, it was surprising that it was positive for chlamydia.

“It was very annoying. I was so non -existent for the whole thing.

Izzi wondered how it could happen after being tested after connecting with Rolf.

“I think I could have tried very early?

In the end, Izzi was happy about the way things proved to be. She went to her doctor for a drug, which cleared the infection almost immediately.

“Really lucky what happened, if I hadn’t met Tim, I probably wouldn’t know that I had it, I would feel awful if I passed it, especially to him, and then the long -term health problems.

Izzi was categorical when asked what would say other people to think about trying.

“It’s not worth putting it away, I know some people who haven’t been tested and you probably need. It takes a few minutes.

When we asked if he was going to have children, Izzy said he made plans.

“At the moment, we are just trying to have fun and not think too much about it. Who knows what could happen?”

Do not leave your sexual health to luck. Close a Sti test to sexual health clinic near you.
