(AKA Lip Filler Cheat Sheet)

Lip fillers are an incredibly popular aesthetic treatment. When you think about all the benefits these injectables can provide, it’s no wonder they’re always in high demand. The versatility of dermal fillers used to treat lips makes them an excellent choice for restoring lost volume, rejuvenating your lips, adding definition, correcting asymmetries and the lips you’ve always wanted.

In the About Facial Aestheticswe specialize in the use of lip fillers in Philadelphia to enhance and restore natural beauty and use a wide range of dermal fillers to deliver the best possible results for each of our unique clients.

Our approach to non-surgical lip augmentation

Our specialty at About Face is providing stunning yet subtle lip filler results aimed at enhancing your natural beauty. These are the kinds of results that will undeniably improve your appearance, even if your friends can’t put their finger on the specific changes.

That being said, our goal is always to tailor our treatments and approaches to meet our clients’ needs, goals, and preferences—whether it’s a natural look or more dramatic bulking.

Popular options for Lip Filler in Philadelphia

All dermal fillers that we offer at About Face can be used for lips in at least some scenarios, but we’ll focus on the more popular lip filler options in this article. A specialist injector can skillfully use all types of dermal fillers in the fine art and science of natural-looking non-surgical lip augmentation, but here is a summary of some of the lip fillers we use the most:

Juvéderm

The JUVÉDERM® Collection of dermal fillers is one of the most popular collections on the market — and for good reason. Using a modified form of hyaluronic acid (HA), Juvéderm collection fillers are specially designed for long-lasting, natural results and to keep your skin and lips soft and deeply hydrated.

Volbella XC

Volbella XC by Juvéderm is a dermal filler specially designed for the lips. At About Face, we use Volbella XC lip filler in Philadelphia for non-surgical lip augmentation, adding a subtle fullness to the lips and erasing vertical lip lines and wrinkles. This is the thinnest dermal filler option in the Juvederm family and is perfect for the person who wants subtle, natural-looking changes or hydration.

We inject this clear HA lip gel with an ultra-fine needle and its lip enhancing effects can last up to 1 year.

Vollure

When you need a thicker lip filler in Philadelphia, you may want to talk to your injector about Juvéderm’s Vollure. Why do you need a thicker filler? Thick dermal fillers such as Vollure can be particularly suitable for restoring lost volume. The consistency of Vollure allows it to spread evenly under the skin and depending on where it is injected, Vollure results can last up to 18 months.

For

Juvéderm Ultra is often a good choice for clients looking for subtle, natural-looking results or a mild to moderate change in the appearance of their lips. Some of our clients enjoy their Juvéderm Ultra results for up to a year, but for the majority, this thinner consistency lip filler tends to last 6 to 9 months.

Restylane

Manufactured by Galderma, the Restylane family of fillers it has been used for more than 50 million treatments to date, worldwide. It was also the first HA filler to be approved by the FDA. This diverse line of fillers helps us deliver naturally stunning and amazingly natural results for our clients seeking lip fillers in Philadelphia.

Restylane Classic

Restylane Classic is a relatively stable hyaluronic acid filler of non-animal origin. Its firm consistency helps extend its natural volumizing benefits. At About Face, we use Restylane Classic to add structure and support to the lips. Most of our clients’ Restylane Classic results last an average of 9 months.

Silk

If silky smooth lips are your look (or at least the look of your dreams), Restylane Silk might just be the lip filler for you. Restylane Silk is designed to tighten thin lips and, like many lip fillers, can also be used to reduce wrinkles around the lips and mouth area. For About Face customers looking for youthful-looking lips, Restylane Silk could be the solution you’ve been waiting for.

Refine

Restylane Refyne is made with XpresHAN technology, an innovation that gives results additional flexibility. This helps ensure that natural-looking results move with your natural facial expressions. Talk to your About Face injector if you think it’s time to give your lips a little extra finesse.

RHA

Another collection of HA-based fillers, RHA offers are designed to closely mimic the hyaluronic acid naturally present in the body. These lip fillers fit perfectly into our collection of lip injections at About Face Aesthetics, as they are enhanced to provide results that look natural and adapt to the movement of your lips.

RHA 2

RHA 2 is a flexible hyaluronic acid-based filler that can be used to subtly augment the lips and fill in wrinkles and skin folds around the mouth. As an HA lip filler, RHA 2 can also improve the overall smoothness, hydration and elasticity of the lips over time. Unlike RHA 3 and RHA 4, RHA 2 is thinner and more suitable for the fine precision required when treating lips.

RHA redness

Often used to treat lipstick lines and dynamic lines around the mouth, RHA Redensity is a soft volume with superior flexibility to accommodate dynamic movements. While some RHA fillers can last up to 15 months for some clients, results with RHA Redensity typically last up to 12 months.

How much filler will I need?

Just like a prescription treatment, the specific “dosage” (or amount) you need to achieve the lip results you want will depend on your unique needs, goals, and underlying anatomy. It takes professional knowledge and skill to determine the perfect amount and type of filler to make your dream lips a reality. That’s why it’s even more important to only get lip fillers from fully certified, experienced injectors like our team of professionals at About Face Aesthetics.

Possible side effects of Lip Filler in Philadelphia

Common side effects of lip fillers include swelling and bruising at and around the injection site. It is also normal for your lips to feel sensitive after the treatment. These side effects, however, usually go away on their own. The swelling experienced by our clients who receive lip fillers in Philadelphia usually subsides after 24 to 48 hours, but some swelling can last up to a week after treatment.

Other possible side effects may include redness and mild discomfort, but these side effects are usually nothing to worry about and should subside within a few days to a week.

Do not take lip fillers if you are allergic to any of the ingredients and be sure to talk to your injector about any allergies and sensitivities you have before starting the lip filler treatment. Our experienced team will be able to help you choose a safe filler or alternative treatment for you.

Treatments to receive with lip fillers

There are a variety of cosmetic treatments that you may want to have during your lip filler appointment in Philadelphia. A popular choice is Botox Cosmetic. We use often Botox to relax lines and wrinkles around the mouth and thus enhance the appearance of the lip area.

Botox can also be used to enhance the lip and mouth area by:

  • Correcting a gummy smile by preventing the upper lip from rising higher than you would like when you smile
  • Treating DAOs (the muscles at the end of the mouth that can pull the edges down, making your resting face look like a frown)
  • Get a lip twist to make the pink part of your lips more prominent

Many of our clients at About Face Aesthetics find that their Philadelphia lip filler appointment is a great opportunity to inject Botox into their lips or any other area they would like to improve. It is an easy adjunct to lip Botox because the lips are already numb in preparation for the dermal filler injections. This makes adding a small amount of Botox to the lips completely comfortable and seamless. People like to have the rest of their face treated with Botox during their lip filler sessions, as they can complete their Botox treatment while the topical lip numbing product takes full effect. (Everyone is happy to make the most efficient use of their time.)

Doing these treatments at the same time is also beneficial, so that if you have bruising or swelling, everything can heal at once, rather than having to go through the process multiple times in a short period of time.
