As a person with interstitial cystitis (IC), urinary tract infection is the equivalent of gasoline in fire. So I do everything I can to avoid getting one (and help my colleagues do the same).

A question that comes a lot in online forums (as well as the way, too many reddit yarns) is whether masturbation can cause UTI. To clean things, I arrived at the experts to find out what is really going on.

In this post, I will cover the way UTI happens, tips on prevention and what to do if you suspect the Firey bitch is head of your street.

What is uti?

A urinary tract infection, or UTI, is a very common infection that can affect any part of your urinary tract, including your kidneys, bladder, ureter and urethra. In accordance with Clinic of ClevelandAbout 50% of women will take a UTI at some point during their lifetime. And it’s not a situation that introduces discrimination: UTI affect both women and men of all ages.

“Uti usually appears when bacteria, usually escherichia coli from the intestine, introduce urinary tract. Martina Ambardjieva, MDUrologist, teaching assistant and a doctorate, says Femmefunn. “This can happen due to the inappropriate broom or the transfer of bacteria from the genitals or the anus to the opening of urethral during the touch.”

If you never had (consider yourself lucky!), Some Basic symptoms To be careful to include the frequency (feel the need to pee more often than usual), painful urination and blood in the urine. If there is blood in your urine, pressure or cramps in your lower abdomen, you should contact your doctor as soon as possible.

Is uti a sexually transmitted infection?

No, an UTI is not considered a sexually transmitted infection (STI) in the classical sense. You can’t “catch” an uti by a partner as you would a Sti. However, sexual activity can increase the risk of UTI growth.

“Sexual activity, especially penetrating contact, is a well -known risk factor for UTIs, especially in people with vulva,” says Dr. Ambardjieva. “In young women, cystitis is sometimes referred to as ‘floating floating cystitis’ due to the increased risk associated with the mechanical introduction of bacteria into the urethra during contact”, adding that “even non -penetration of sexual activities such as oral gender or stimulating organs,

Can masturbation cause uti?

Only masturbation is unlikely to cause an uti.

“It is possible that masturbation will cause uti, but not necessarily by masturbation, but due to relevant hygiene practices or lacking them” Jessie ClininA pelvic floor physiotherapist in Willow Pelvic Health, tells Femmefunn. “UTI happens when the bacteria are entered into the urinary tract.”

Other ways in which uti bacteria make their way to your urinary tract:

➡️ Don’t wash your hands before touching your sensitive pieces

➡️ Using saliva as a lubricant (please don’t do that)

➡् Tap your anus, then your genitals during masturbation (don’t cross!)

➡️ Using sex games not cleaned between uses

➡️ Using sex -free sex -free games (this is also how the STDs happen!)

You may also unknowingly increase the risk of a UTI if:

➡️ Keep your pee (as in a long trip or during a movie)

➡️ are dehydrated

➡️ take certain types of drugs or supplements

➡️ use diaphragms or some sperm

➡् have some medical diseases (such as diabetes or anything that suppresses the immune system)

➡् Hormonal Change experience

Even tampons, if they stay for a long time, can encourage the growth of bacteria and can lead to UTI.

Is it safe to masturbate with uti?

While you box You feel with uti, it is unlikely to want.

The symptoms of an UTI (the constant push to pee, the burning sensation when you do) are enough to keep even the hottest of us in the vagina. Not to mention, masturbation with a UTI can make inflammation and irritation in your urethra even worse.

“If someone has UTI, I would recommend waiting to masturbate until the infection is cleaned,” says Klein.

If you choose to mourn up while struggling in a UTI, experts always recommend washing your hands well before touching your genitals. But, it is probably better to give your body a break to heal. You can come another day.

How to prevent a UTI after masturbation

If you are worried super to get utis (girl, I understand), there are a few things you can do to reduce your risk.

➡* Wash: We are not the guy to say that your pussy should smell like flowers, but if you have repeated UTIs or a sensitive urethra, it is never a bad idea to keep things clean. “Always wash your hands before and after masturbation or sex,” advises Dr. Ambardjieva.

➡️ Pee later, every time: This is extremely annoying, but it is an important tip to follow. Urination after sexual activity of any kind can help rinse any bacteria that may have entered the urethra during masturbation. (You will also want to stay hydrated!)

➡️ Keep your games clearly: Your toys should be as clean as your kitten. Wash games sexually with warm water and soap (or a very good toy cleaner) after each use. And, if you are in DP, make sure you have maintained these games separately. If you really You want to be safe, Dr. Ambardjieva recommends covering your condoms before use.

Klein also notes that people who have repeated UTIs may want to shower or bathe after masturbation or sex. In severe cases, he says that taking preventive drugs (I have done this) may be an option, but it should only be done under the supervision of a medical professional.

What to do if you receive UTI (treatment options and when to see a doctor)

When you notice symptoms such as burning during urination, frequent impulses for pee or cloudy urine, it’s time to act. Do not buy only one package Azo And go for your day – if you cover the problem, it’s just going to get worse (and then you may need a visit to ER later).

“If symptoms persist for more than one day, or if there is fever, pain or nausea, it is important to see a doctor,” says Dr. Ambardjieva. “Unattended UTIs can proceed with kidney infections.”

After that, your doctor will probably prescribe an antibiotic round.

The bottom line

While masturbation is only unlikely to cause UTI, the exercise of poor hygiene during solo play can increase your risk. Hierarchy of good hygiene (eg washing your hands and toys and peeing after your game) is the easiest way to avoid UTIS and enjoy some solo time without worrying about infections.

Listen to your body. If something feels away or if you experience UTI symptoms, call your doctor or head to urgent care. The faster you act, the faster you can get back to yourself.

Remember: Care of your sexual health is just another important part of care you.
