She is also the Mary Gilbreth Endowed Chair of Oncology, a MUSC Hollings Cancer Center investigator and senior author of a new paper demonstrating a broad survival benefit of using evidence-based smoking cessation to help patients quit smoking as soon as possible after cancer diagnosis. In interviews I did for the Prostate Cancer Foundation website, Weill Cornell Medicine urologist Jim C. Hu, MD, MPH (whose expert opinion was also featured in ours book)discusses what a rising or persistent PSA means after treatment for localized prostate cancer and what to do next. Remember the first lesson from Part 1: Don’t Panic! How do you know if localized prostate cancer is curable? This answer to this question is clear for men undergoing radical prostatectomy: in the weeks after the operation, the PSA should be undetectable, falling to less than 0.1. But for men undergoing radiation therapy, it’s…
Wendy Ouriel A year ago, I opened OUMERE’s first location in Palm Beach, Florida, choosing the Worth Avenue shopping district for its luxury, exclusivity and quaint charm. This is my first experience living in Florida. Before moving here, I spent almost 20 years in California, with time in New York before that. Over the past year, I have made observations about Florida that seem unique to this region. The Island Palm Beach is an island, isolated from the mainland to the west. With only three bridges—one in the north, one in the center, and one in the south—entry and exit…

The magazine is published in the Lippincott portfolio by Wolters Kluwer. Our data show that nonwhite children with cleft lip are significantly more likely to experience delays, complications, and prolonged hospital stays than white children. Importantly, our analyzes also provide key insights into why such disparities might exist in a historically safe and common process.” Derek Steinbacher,…
As cannabis becomes more widely accepted in the US, discussions about its use are becoming more common — even among expectant mothers. A recent study from the University of Georgia highlights a trend: among 4,338 expectant mothers, 5.7% reported marijuana use during pregnancy, often to manage symptoms such as nausea. The study noted various methods of cannabis consumption among pregnant women – smoking, edibles and tinctures. However, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) advises against the use of cannabis during pregnancy, given the potential risks to the health of the fetus.
