As a plant-based dieter, this is one of the breakfasts I make repeatedly during the summer, especially after a long hot run. It’s thick, creamy and naturally sweet from frozen mango and banana, so no added sugar is needed.

With four simple ingredients, this high-protein smoothie bowl comes together in minutes and helps replenish energy while keeping me full. Top with granola, chia seeds, or hemp seeds for extra fiber, healthy fats, and crunch. Every bite tastes like a tropical vacation.

Because you’ll love this Smoothie Bowl

Like all my recipes, this one is delicious and easy. Here are some of the reasons I love this bowl. Of:

  • made with 4 simple ingredients
  • naturally sweet without added sugar
  • packed with vegetable protein
  • ready in 5 minutes
  • perfect for post workout recovery meal, healthy breakfast or refreshing snack
  • easy to customize with your favorite toppings

Dietician Advice

One of my favorite things about this smoothie bowl is that it’s naturally sweet with no added sugar. Frozen mango creates a rich, creamy texture that’s almost like soft serve ice cream, making it feel like a treat while providing plenty of nutritional value.

To maximize protein, I recommend choosing a Greek-style, non-dairy, soy or other high-protein base yogurt. If you’re vegan, Kite Hill makes a Greek-style yogurt that’s one of my favorites because it’s packed with protein and has a thick, creamy texture and tangy flavor. I usually skip coconut-based yogurts, as they are often lower in protein and higher in saturated fat.

Soy milk is another easy way to get a protein boost compared to many other plant-based milks, so I always use it in my post-workout smoothies.

For even more power, sprinkle with chia seeds or hemp seeds. They add fiber, protein and heart-healthy fats that help keep you energized and full long after breakfast.

Easy variations

The nice thing about a smoothie bowl is that you can customize it to your tastes and what you have on hand. Here are some ways to make it a little different but still delicious:

  • Mix in a handful of spinach for extra greens without changing the tropical flavor.
  • Swap the mango for frozen pineapple or peaches for a different tropical twist.
  • Top with fresh berries, sliced kiwi or toasted coconut for extra flavor and texture.

Storage

This smoothie bowl is best enjoyed straight away for the thickest and creamiest texture. It only takes a few minutes to make and I recommend eating it out of a bowl with a spoon. But if you’re really in a hurry, add a thick straw and drink it like a smoothie.

Because this is a great recovery meal

After a long run or hard workout, your body benefits from a combination of carbohydrates to replenish glycogen stores and protein to support muscle recovery. This smoothie bowl offers both whole-food ingredients, making it one of my favorite post-run meals.

Fruit provides fast-digesting carbohydrates, while soy milk and Greek-style yogurt add high-quality plant-based protein. Top it off with chia or hemp seeds for extra fiber and healthy fats that will keep you full for hours.
