This Week in Health & Performance: What the latest research says

🌙🍽️ Eat Before Bed—Not So Bad?: A new study suggests that eating closer to bedtime may not hurt sleep as much as we thought, but context matters. The comparison was between stopping eating 4.5 vs. 2.5 hours before bed and not snacking late at night in bed. For most people, it is What and How many that disrupts sleep, not just time (full study here).

🦠🥔 Butter & Metabolism Booster: Emerging research suggests that butyrate, a compound produced by fermentation of plant fiber, may enhance the effects of calorie restriction by improving metabolism and regulating appetite and blood sugar. Consider resistant starches like green bananas, frozen potatoes, rice, and peas (read the study).

🧠⚡ Testosterone and brain tumors: A surprising NIH-supported study shows that testosterone can actually suppress brain tumor growth in men, highlighting a complex and often misunderstood role of hormones in disease progression.full study).

🏋️🔥 Lift Heavy, Reap Heat Benefits: You don’t need a sauna or a hot climate to activate heat shock proteins. Intense resistance training, such as heavy squats at 85%+, can stimulate similar cellular stress responses that support recovery and endurance (read more).

Key Takeaway: From meal timing and gut-derived metabolites to hormones and exercise intensity, this week’s research reinforces a key idea: context matters. It’s not just what you do, but how, when and in what environment you do it that shapes your results.

Product of the Week

::: Explore Your Deeper Epigenetic Story With TruDiagnostic (& Save 20%) :::

Most health tests show you what’s going on in your body at this moment. That’s helpful, but it’s only part of the picture.

The standard blood test can help you understand your current levels of glucose, lipids, nutrients, hormones, and markers of inflammation.

But epigenetic tests look at a different level of biology: DNA methylation, which is how your genes are expressed. These methylation patterns can reflect how your body responds over time to factors such as sleep, exercise, diet, stress, toxins, recovery, and aging.

The TruAge test by TruDiagnostic analyzes over 1 million sites in your DNA to estimate your biological age, rate of aging and the age of 11 major organ systems, including the brain, heart, liver, lungs, immune system and metabolism.

The real power of the test lies in its use of advanced AI-driven epigenetic science, developed with Harvard, Yale and Duke. Rather than looking at a single lab value in isolation, TruDiagnostic helps translate large-scale methylation data into personalized information about how your body is aging and where you may have opportunities for optimization.

The goal is not to replace a blood draw, but to add a deeper, long-term level of knowledge so you can stop guessing, monitor whether your interventions are working, and make more informed decisions with your doctor.

Ready to find out what your biological age might be telling you?
