I’m a firm believer that if you’re serious about antiaging, but don’t want to mess with professional procedures, need a good home care device. Topical products, as amazing as retinol or peptides are, can only do so much, but with a good device, oh boy, your skincare game will be next level.

I’ve now tried 16 different skincare devices since 2020 and here’s what I think of them all now:

My Holy Grail: CurrentBody LED Mask Series 2

I first tried the original in 2022 and it’s been the one device I’ve used consistently since, only switching it off when I got the Series 2. It’s perfect for when I just want to relax, but also when I need to run errands or even work out. Time is of the essence now that I’m a mom and I need a device that can multitask with me!

Brooch

Here’s what I’ve noticed in 3 years of using an LED mask:

  • Almost new fine lines! Between having a baby and the lack of sleep that comes with said baby, I expected to be 5+ years old and I definitely felt it in other areas. Luckily my face has been spared and I think this mask contributes a lot to that.
  • Reduced skin sensitivity even when using strong active ingredients. My skin has always been pretty stretchy, but I’ve definitely noticed an improvement over the years, especially with the redness. For example, I used to get red easily when using Tretinoin or RF devices, but now the redness is not only less noticeable but also goes away faster.
  • This is a fairly new improvement, but lighter skin tone when using CurrentBody Green Tea Serum before the mask! I mentioned before that I didn’t notice any changes when using a green tea serum, but I suspect that’s because I used one that isn’t specifically designed to work with LED masks.

It’s not a terribly long list, but for 10 minutes a day, those are huge wins. They also align with what research has shown to be the benefits of red light therapy for the skin.

❤️ Best for: Those with busy lifestyles who want maximum returns for minimum effort. Anyone who has a low pain tolerance or is particularly sensitive to heat, as this LED mask is definitely the gentlest of all the devices on this list.

Don’t use them every day, but still love them

When I’m busy or super tired, I’ll just use the CurrentBody LED Mask. But when I have more time, I tend to reach for one of the following depending on my skin’s needs:

Series 2 CurrentBody LED neck and décolleté masks

Yes me just revised this, so this update will be short and sweet. Given how easy it is to use and that the LED face mask is already part of my nightly routine, adding the neck and December mask was a no-brainer. Now I have all the benefits of the face mask for my neck too, and if you compare the before and after, you’ll see improvements in skin tone and smoothing of lines!

❤️ Best for: Anyone looking for an easy and effective anti-aging solution for the neck and décolleté area. Anyone already using LED face mask.

🔖 Price: $419.99 Current Bodybe sure to use code GEEKYPOSH for 20% off and save $84! OR bundle with the series 2 face mask for $799.99 ($639.99 with my code)!

My usual routine: CurrentBody Series 2 Face Mask + Neck & Dec Mask. I may or may not have scared my husband a few times with this conflict.

ZIP HALO

The best microcurrent device I’ve tried as it also has nanocurrents and a variety of treatments to target different skin care needs. It’s also the fastest and least painful of the microcurrent devices as I don’t feel any stings when using it!

For me, the biggest long-term result I see from continued use is lift, which my skin definitely needs more of as I get older. However, the key to this benefit is consistency, so if I stop using ZIIP after a while, the effect starts to fade. Unfortunately, I don’t use the other treatments consistently enough to see results in those other areas, but I love how you can target multiple skin concerns with just one device.

❤️ Best for: Those who want to lift and tighten the skin without pain or discomfort. Those who want to target a wide range of skin concerns (dullness, sagging, fine lines, etc.) with a single device.

🔖 Price: $399 to ZIP or Current Bodyget 10% off with code JENNYHALO

NEWA Plus

I can’t believe this is my first time talking about this, but since I got the NEWA Plus, it has become my favorite RF device to use, dethroning the Tripollar Stop Vx and the Medicube Age-R Deep Shot. Its shorter processing time and wireless design make it much easier to use consistently, again a must now with my busier lifestyle.

NEWA is manufactured by ENDYMED Medicala trusted manufacturer of professional grade machines used in clinics, and it is evident from the results I see: thickened skin with long-term regular use, but also tightening along the jawline. I’m guessing the latter is to tighten the sagging skin in that area, which is such a huge (and unexpected) benefit as I could only achieve this with the painful ELV feature on the Tripollar.

❤️ Best for: Those with busy lifestyles who want to plump and tighten the skin.

🔖 Price: $439 at Newa Official Website

Runner-up devices that I love but don't use regularly for one reason or anotherBrooch

Devices currently collecting dust

Ok to be fair, some of these devices are still objectively great, but no longer fit my current skin care needs and/or lifestyle.

Medicube AGE-R Booster H

This one doesn’t collect much dust as I still use it occasionally as part of my morning routine. My biggest gripe with it is that it doesn’t work nearly half as well with non-Medicube products, so I have to keep a mist on hand to keep moisturizing the skin so the Booster H doesn’t pull it off. It makes my skin glow every time I use it, so if you’re a fan of Medicube products and/or glowing skin, this device will fit nicely into your routine.

Medicube Age-R Ussera Deep Shot

I really liked the Deep Shot as this was the RF device I used before the baby. But with my son sleeping in my room, I can’t have a device that emits a sound every 4 seconds, I risk waking him up. Actually, why are all Medicube devices so annoyingly loud? Anyway, I digress. If the beeping doesn’t bother you and you want a super smooth RF device that still delivers results, this is a good one to check out.

Tripolar Stop Vx and X

Ah the OG RF beauty tools! This made me realize how much home facial devices can help with our skincare goals and objectively I still think these are great. However, between the long cure times and the cable design, the NEWA Plus (or even the Medicube Age-R Deep Shot) is simply superior in every way.

Amiro R3 Pro RF

Initially I loved this RF device, it’s wireless, felt incredibly comfortable on the skin and didn’t have the annoying beeps of the Medicube. However, after a few months it stopped holding its charge and I would have to plug it in after each use. As a result, it was comparable to Medicube, although I trust that brand less. A quick search on Red Note (the Chinese app) also shows mixed reviews of the brand and their quality.

Quasar MD

What do you get when you combine the hassle of a handheld device with the slower results of LED masks. Congratulations, it’s like the worst of both worlds!

Solawave 4-1 Radiant Renewal Skincare Rod

It’s almost as bad as the Quasar MD, except this one is at least slim and travel friendly. However, I found the other 3 functions (heat, galvanic current, and facial massage) to be pretty useless, and it only has one wavelength of red light compared to three on the CurrentBody LED Mask. 12 minutes would be much better spent with an LED mask than shaking it.

NuFace Trinity

The OG microcurrent device. I really liked my NuFace Mini and for me it was better and more efficient than the Trinity, but it also developed charging issues after a year of use. For some reason the lifting effects from Trinity were much weaker, despite the fact that they leveled up all the way. So more zap, less lift. Beautiful.

Foreo Bear 2

I tried a very early iteration of the Bear and boy did it sting, despite their ‘anti-shock system’. Unfortunately I can’t speak for long term results because I gave up after a week due to the unbearable pain. I will say that I’m a big baby when it comes to acute stinging pain, so if you’re not into microcurrent zapping, I think this would be a better option than the NuFace Trinity.

The ok, not so good and badBrooch
I couldn’t find my Booster-H, I think my son rolled it under the couch. Quasar MD is also missing because the brand actually asked me to return it after they saw my negative review lol.

Aid! I still can’t decide!

First of all, you don’t need so many devices. LED, RF, and microcurrent all have their advantages, and I strongly encourage you to learn more about the various technologies to make an informed decision.

Once you understand the technology, I recommend starting with what best fits your skincare goals and lifestyle and commit to it for at least a few months. There is a good chance that one device will be more than enough!
