Since the replacement of my aortic valve in 2017, I was in the beta-blocker measurement. This is mostly to prevent possible heart arrhythmia, but it also helps to control my blood pressure. It seems to work well and I have no remarkable side effects, except my heart rate does not seem to rise so high during exercise. Wednesday showed its effects more dramatically. I had finished my recipe bottle and on Wednesday morning I couldn’t find the replacement bottle. I usually get the first thing in the morning before any activity. I decided to go along the way anyway and look for it later. Wednesday was scheduled to be a more difficult ride, a long lively rhythm route, followed by a space session and power training. I was wearing my breast strap for heart rate monitoring, which I know is accurate.

Wednesday’s route, out and back to the Coyote trail to Bernal Road, then south to Gilroy and back, for about 3 1/2 hours. (https://www.strava.com/activities/14768704634;

During the Tempo section of the route I noticed that my heart rate was more than 10 beats higher than I expected, approaching an average of 120, despite the fact that my perceived level of exercise was similar to the recent rides and spent my “talk test”. (So people are not worried that I am talking to myself going down the road, I use the alternative to the alphabet recitation). Then, during the interval session, I noticed that I reached heart rate in the 150s, which I have not seen at some point. I found the replacement bottle after I finished the ride and took my dose late. But this incident put a curiosity seed. I noticed that the bottle says it was getting it “in the morning”, not necessarily the first thing in the morning. In researching the internet, I could not find any reason why it is not okay to exercise early in the morning and then take a mestoprolol. It just seems to be a good idea to take it at the same time every day. So I’ll start taking it firmly later in the morning after my workout.

I was also curious about what is known for its effect on athletic performance. Reported In this video From a famous cardiologist in the United Kingdom, beta-blockers, such as metoprol performance, reduce lower heart rate during exercise. This seems reasonable. If I do for a while and my legs are shouting for oxygen, it seems that I may not be able to go so hard if my heart rate remains in the 130s instead of the 150s.

There is even some evidence that n some precision sports such as archery, beta-blockers can improve performance, for example by reducing “Fright”.

Lately I have researched topics like this in Google’s Gemini. If you click on “Deep Research” in the “Ask Gemini” box, instead of answering only your question, it will look for a bundle of related sites on the Internet, then pass the results and make a report. This is a fun use of AI. So I did this and we typed with the impact of metropolol on athletic performance. “Came with This detailed reportFrom which I learned a lot. Metoprolol seems to affect the efficiency of endurance, such as a slight decrease in maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max). Taking my metroprol is essential to prevent possible arrhythmia. But for anyone who receives this or other beta-blocker exclusively for the prevention of high blood pressure, there are alternative blood pressure drugs that are discussed in the report, which have a much lower impact on performance.

There is also a good discussion on beta inhibitors and exercise This site. The bottom line is that it is absolutely safe to exercise strongly when taking metoprolol and does not seem to matter if you take it before or after, as long as you take it at the same time every day.

I don’t really worry about some little damage to performance. And since I have been in the drug since 2017, and then they are interested in competition against “myself”, all my recent shows that I will compare with equally influenced.
