Match made in Norway

Tell us how you met!

During the pandemic I went with a good friend, Kaja, during the Christmas season, so as not to die of boredom and loneliness. While I was flying back to Oslo after a trip to northern Norway, I had forgotten the Kajas dinner at home with a man he had encountered as well as my very rigorous instructions to not come home until a certain time. I blame strong drinks and northern lights.) Anyway, when I enter the apartment, he has dinner with this cute man, Frode. So cute my jeans and tonic knife disappears in a moment.

After a few more dates they discover that there are no feelings between them and stay friends. Six months later and still deep under the eternal rabbit hole, fits Frode on Tinder. I honestly didn’t recognize him at first when we started talking. When I realized that this was Kaja’s previous date, I asked her if I could meet him for a coffee (apparently with face masks and 1 meter between them, were these days?). He laughed and said yes. Provided that if Frode and I were married, he would be invited. The wedding party is made up of our parents, our brothers (with partners), the best men/and women and the “matchmaker” Kaja, Haha. :)!

Where did you choose to get married?

Due to a severe pregnancy (hello serious illness) we chose a very small marriage (16 people) in Oslo where we live and where I was born and raised. My husband (still unusual to say loud!) Is a boy of the country from a very small village called Sebu in the middle of Norway, about an hour from Trondheim. The plan is to have a big party in Selbu with all our friends and family next summer. (We imagine summer nights, meadows, in a barn, more casual and rustic).

The ceremony was at the beautiful town hall in Oslo. The wedding room has a stunning view of the ocean and our judge got married in front of a beautiful painting by the world -renowned Norwegian painter Edvard Munch. I went down the “corridor” with my father while “Edelweiss” was playing. My favorite movie that grows <3.

The photos after taking only a 10 -minute walk from the Town Hall to Akershus Fortress. Congratulations from the remaining Oslo-Tourists from us, the United Kingdom, Germany and Japan during our shooting.

The space was in the 5 -star Hotel Continental, a historic hotel just 5 minutes away and around the corner from the Town Hall. The hotel was so incredibly professional from start to finish. It gets elegance from the minute you get in. Chandeliers, carpets, mirrors, art, furniture, etc. They are so good, royal and classic. The whole area is so decorative that we did not need decorations. More so the unique decorations we wanted were flowers on the table. Since she was so ill with pregnancy, she felt amazing to leave control, I knew we were in the best care and good hands. (I could live the 4 -course meal again every day!)

What are you wearing?

The dress! I wanted something like the Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden’s wedding dress. My sister, mom, and the two bridesmaids gave me a very strange look when I told them I didn’t need to go and try dresses in a boutique, I found it on a British website) I wanted a dress where I could hide the baby a little bit in some photos. I think knowing what I wanted from the beginning made the choice easy for me. In the accessories I went with pearls of earrings. I made my own veil with pearls and chose Steve Madden shoes covered by pearls. Hair and makeup were inspired by Kate Middleton.

Any tips for colleagues pregnant brides?

– Keep in mind how big by a marriage you have the energy for. Having only 16 visitors made me relax more than if I would have a big wedding. (And don’t feel guilty about it, it’s your day!)

– “Yes!”, “I got this”, “we’ll fix it”, “don’t worry about it” in the process. We depended on friends/family and their positive attitude while I was in bed rest and sick leave for months.

– A small stewardess advice: Wear compression socks! The heels are tight, they will swell, but the compression socks help a lot and prevent some swelling for me. (Also, take the heels from time to time, no one will know?)

– Snack. Obviously! I was super worried about diffusion/taking stains in the dress, so Sprite with sugar and unsalted nuts gave me a quick energy boost between the ceremony, photography, mixing and dinner. Not the day to play with dark food/drinks such as chocolate, coffee and coca cola.

– Your nails grow so fast when you are pregnant, if you are going to fix your nails before marriage, do one day or two before.

– It should be fun to plan your wedding. Pregnancy can be so demanding, but planning this can be a good break from everything else. If you feel anxious about it, put it away and return later.

– Watch the finances during the process. Yes, it is a manifestation of a lifetime, but you will not enjoy it if you are worried about the invoice that will come later.

Tell us some fun facts!

Fun Fact No.1: I first suggested in October 2022. He said yes, but he wanted to propose himself, something he did in March 2023.

Fun Fact No.2: We closed the time for the wedding ceremony on my way from one party to another, in the back seat of a taxi. Marrying at the Town Hall on a daily basis is free in Norway. Started with ‘wedding planning’, saving us 250 pounds?)
