Many families they are fortunate enough to enjoy a less structured schedule during the summer. But, onesthose carefree days of summer give way to controlled the habits of the school year, health and exercise professionals have one opportunity for guidance their customers in establishing a family exercise routine and development of healthy habits for children. While it is a challenging transition, having effective strategies in place allows customers to stay focused to their well-being and inspire their families to do the same.

As you work with your clients who are affected by the changing seasons and changes in routine, begin by asking them what, if any, concerns they may have related to this transition. This question is important, as it helps you meet customers where they are and allows you to work with them to brainstorm strategies that lead to an effective and sustainable transition.

Most often, clients highlight concerns related to a change in routine, balancing a diet, managing a more hectic and time-consuming schedule, and finding ways to manage any stress they experience.

In these conversations, keep these “pocket questions” in mind.

Work through these questions (or your own) with your clients to explore what they might be experiencing in their minds. Remember to rely on ACE ABC approachâ„¢ engage in meaningful and motivating conversation to help clients get to a place where they are recognize what they need to have a successful and healthy school year with their families. After this conversation, you can brainstorm different ways to support your customers in the transition. Checkout The approaches below.

Establish routine and consistency

Create a schedule: Encourage customerdevelop a weekly schedule that includes designated times for physical activity and meal planning (these would be their “non-negotiables” or “priorities”). Emphasize the importance of consistency, which helps both children and parents install and maintain healthy habits.

Morning and evening routines: Help customers develop and incorporating short, manageable activities into (Think of these as micro bursts or movement snacks). Morning stretches or a brisk walk can set a positive tone for the day, while evening family yoga or an occasional bike ride can relax end.

Promotion of a Balanced Diet

Encouragement of physical activity

Active movement: Advocate for walking or biking to school (where possible) to include physical activity in the daily routine. If the school is too far, suggest parking a few blocks away and walking the rest of the way (Keep in mind the likely weather and security challenges).

Mindfulness and Relaxation: Incorporate mindfulness and relaxation techniques into the programs you create with your customers. Teach simple practices such as deep breath, Meditation or progressive muscle relaxation to manage stress and improve overall well-being. Plus, share some of your favorite meditation apps and playlists that you use in your own practice.

Rest respect: memphasize that rest is necessary and no reward. The lack of consistent and restorative rest negatively effects all other dimensions of well-being. If clients and their families struggle with a bedtime routineit can be an area to navigate with them.

Contact and Support

Regular check-In.s.: Install regular training check-in with customers to discuss weekly progress, meeting challenges or setbacks and celebrate successes.

Supportive Community: In your work with clients, you can develop a sense of it community. Think organizational group activities, social events or online forums where families can share experiences, offer support and motivate each other.
