How can ART help us improve our Mental Health? Whenever I talk about mental health wellness, I suggest having a creative outlet. Look for an art medium to express how you feel inside because it helps. Art is sharing who you really are. It is an expression of your spirit. It is an expression of your wholeness. Wwhen you open your heart and make art. It’s like opening up the essence of who we are and allowing ourselves to discover something new about ourselves, insight into what we really know to be true within.

In this blog, I want you to think about what it is that you need in your life right now. How you can use its power NOW to manifest something you deeply desire?

3 ways ART can help us improve our mental health

How can ART help us improve our Mental Health? When you open yourself up to exploration, you discover a few things about yourself that you may not even know you possess. Maybe you always wanted to be a painter but never gave yourself the chance to paint.

Art itself is therapeutic in experience. Whether you create it or simply observe and enjoy it, it helps you relax and inspire in many ways. I personally like to make art with doodles, mandalas or some DIY. I love being in nature and it helps me relax.

Research suggests that art therapy can be very helpful in treating issues such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and even certain phobias. It’s a great way to express your feelings without words, process complicated feelings, and find relief. In this article, we will take a closer look at art therapy and discuss it mental health benefits.

What is Art Therapy?

According to the American Art Therapy Association, art therapy is a mental health profession in which clients, facilitated by the art therapist, use art media, the creative process, and the resulting artwork to explore their feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, enhance self-awareness, manage behavior and addictions, develop social skills, improve reality orientation, reduce anxiety and increase anxiety.

A goal in art therapy is to improve or restore the client’s functioning and sense of personal well-being. The practice of art therapy requires knowledge of the visual arts (drawing, painting, sculpture and other art forms) and the creative process, as well as human development, psychological and counseling theories and techniques.

Improve your Mental Health through Art

How can ART help us improve our Mental Health? By treating ourselves to something relaxing and so soothing that our sensory nerves get a signal of calm around our surroundings.

1.) Create your sacred space

A space that belongs exclusively to you, when I started writing, I knew that I would continue to write for as long as I can actually write. Later in 2016, I was sick and I was are undergoing treatment. I have always been inclined towards the arts, but this was a special moment when the idea of healing through the arts stuck with me.
I started writing, I created my first personal blog with the name Virtual Siyahi, and as I slowly began my writing journey, I discovered a hidden me. I knew I had to continue and I created my sacred space, organized a desk and am currently writing this blog through the same desk, which is full of books, stationery and a Buddha image on one side with a candle and a small tree next to it.

All the art I have created is in and around this desk. It helps me feel good about my work, it’s something I’ve created for myself. I call it a GIFT because it helped me share myself with the world.

A part of myself that was unknown to me for so long is suddenly a part that so many people relate to, all through my art of writing, speaking, and listening. Not only did it help me discover my true purpose, but it also helped me heal myself by helping others in the process.

2.) Find what sparks joy in you

There is always something you like to do that I like to do. It is precisely because we are so caught up in our day jobs and busy lives that we don’t pause and reflect on so many things. But to take care of our mental health we must consider its needs.

For some it could be painting, for some, it could be swimming, for some, it could be playing football or playing the guitar. How can art help us improve our Mental Health? You need to find the one that lights up your atmosphere.

We need to find what helps us, we need to find our passion. Sometimes you discover purpose while identifying your passion. For me, writing is not only my passion, but my purpose of spreading mental health awareness through my writing is my sole purpose. I love what I do and I never feel tired of this joy of giving and receiving.

Taking care of your mental health is not a one time thing, you have to take care of your inner space all the time. Mental health is just as important as your physical health, check it as well as your external beauty.

When you radiate from within it shows on your face. So once you’ve found a creative outlet for yourself, spend some time on it. It is very important to know that you don’t have to be perfect in everything you do with your art. All you need to do to complete an activity successfully and honestly.

Studies also show that creating art stimulates the release of dopamine. This chemical is released when we do something pleasurable and actually makes us feel happier. Increased levels of this feel-good neurotransmitter can be very helpful if you struggle with anxiety or depression.

3.) It gives you space to acknowledge and acknowledge feelings that are hidden in your subconscious.

4.) Acts as a healthy outlet for pent-up emotions.

5.) Creating art can be used to relieve stress and relax your mind and body.

In conclusion, I would say that there is no better way to connect with yourself and help you heal than to have a creative outlet. It’s convenient, easy, and distracting in a very good way. Art is beautiful and artists have their own world. So, how can ART help us improve our Mental Health?

We all have a mysterious universe within us. Wwhen we call the arts in, we also surprise pleased with what we discover about ourselves.
