Skincare doesn’t have to be a 17-step science experiment to work. In fact, most people only need a few well-chosen products used consistently to keep their skin happy, healthy and behaving properly.

But we know the world of skincare can still feel a little overwhelming. There are thousands of products out there, endless ingredient lists and lots of conflicting advice online.

So instead of overcomplicating things, we thought we’d answer top five skin care questions they ask us most. If you’ve ever stood in front of the mirror and wondered what your skin really needs, this guide is for you.

1. What skin care products should I use for my skin type?

This is by far the most common question we get.

People often assume they need a complicated routine tailored to a very specific skin type. But the reality is much simpler than that.

For most people, a basic routine of cleansing, moisturizing and sunscreen is enough to keep skin balanced and healthy.

Sensitive skin

Sensitive skin tends to react easily to new products, perfumes or strong active substances. The goal here is to focus on gentle cleansing and strengthening the skin barrier.

I’m looking for:

  • unscented formulas
  • soothing barrier-supporting ingredients;
  • simple ingredient lists

When introducing new products, add one product at a time and give your skin a week or two to adjust before adding anything else.

This helps you determine what works well for your skin and what doesn’t.

Dry skin

Dry skin usually needs more nourishment and hydration.

If your skin feels tight, flaky or dull, it may benefit from richer formulas that help prevent moisture loss.

Look for moisturizers that contain:

  • nutritious vegetable oils
  • humectants (ingredients that attract water to the skin)
  • barrier-supporting components

These ingredients help restore hydration and keep skin comfortable throughout the day.

Normal or combination skin

Combination skin usually has a mixture of slightly oilier areas (often the T-zone) and drier areas on the cheeks.

The best approach here is usually light hydration.

Choose moisturizers that are:

  • lightweight boxer
  • easily absorbed
  • hydrates without feeling heavy

These formulas help balance the skin without clogging pores or overloading the oiliest areas.

Remember, your skin doesn’t need dozens of products. Start with the basics, choose formulas that suit your skin type, and keep things consistent. Simple routines often provide the best long-term results.

2. How do I create a skincare routine that actually works?

Many people assume that the best grooming routine must include a laundry list. In fact, the routines that work best are often the simplest and most consistent.

Instead of putting on ten different products every day, focus on creating a routine that supports your skin’s natural balance.

A great starting point is a simple three-step morning routine.

Morning routine

  1. Light cleaning: use cleanser or just water and a soft sponge.
  2. Hydration: hydrates your skin and helps support the skin barrier.
  3. Sunscreen: protects your skin from UV damage, which is one of the biggest contributors to premature aging and pigmentation.

Evening routine

At night, your skin focuses on repair, so the routine can be slightly simpler.

  1. Clean: removes sunscreen, make-up, dirt and pollution from the day.
  2. Hydration: supports overnight repair.

We recommend starting with:

Once you have these basics sorted, you can start adding targeted treatments like serums, masks and exfoliants depending on your goals.

Common additions include:

  • Peeling– Helps remove dead skin cells and improve skin texture.
  • Treatment products or serums – These can help address specific concerns such as dullness, breakouts or uneven tone. However, they are better used cautiously and not daily by default.

We recommend starting with:

3. In what order should I use skin care products?

Ah yes, the classic skincare puzzle. The serum first? Moisturizer first? Does the sunscreen go on before or after everything?

The easiest rule to remember is: apply products from lightest to richest.

This simply means applying products based on their texture.

  • Thinner products are absorbed by the skin first
  • Thicker creams sit on top and help seal everything in

And sunscreen is always last. If you apply other products over it, you may accidentally dilute or break this protection. So, SPF always takes last place in your morning routine. Think of it as the protective raincoat for your corral.

4. How often should I use my skin care products?

One of the biggest misconceptions in skincare is that more products or more frequent use equals better results.

In fact, skin tends to respond better to consistent, consistent routines than constant experimentation.

Most mild cleansers can be used once or twice a day. While moisturizers are usually safe for daily or twice-daily use, depending on how thirsty your skin is. Constant hydration helps maintain the skin barrier, which is key to healthy skin.

When it comes to exfoliants or treatments, these are usually best used two to three times a week to give your skin time to adjust and reduce the risk of irritation. When in doubt, start slowly and increase usage gradually if your skin responds well.

Bonus Tip: You should find that you can increase your use of Woohoo treatments very soon, but it’s always best to start slow to be on the safe side. It’s the exfoliants you need to be more careful with.

5. What if my skin is sensitive?

Sensitive skin is extremely common. And if you’ve ever had a product cause redness, tingling, or irritation, it’s understandable to feel a little wary of trying something new.

The good news is that sensitive skin can thrive with the right approach.

The secret ingredients here are simplicity and patience.

Start with a routine designed around:

  • mild detergents
  • simple moisturizers
  • minimal ingredients

Avoid introducing many new products at the same time.

Instead, give each product time to settle into your routine before adding another.

Patch testing

Before applying a new product to your entire face, it’s always a good idea to do a patch test.

Apply a small amount to an area such as behind your ear or on your inner arm and wait 24 hours.

If your skin remains calm, you’re good to go. If he reacts, you’ve saved your whole face from potential drama.

Many Woohoo skincare products are designed with sensitive skin in mind, focusing on gentle formulas that support the skin barrier rather than overwhelm it.

Remember: skincare doesn’t have to be complicated to work. A handful of well-chosen products used consistently can make a huge difference in how your skin looks and feels.

Focus on:

  • gentle cleaning
  • constant hydration
  • daily sun protection

And you’re already doing most of the heavy lifting for your skin.

The rest is just learning what your skin responds well to and keeping things simple.

Buy skin care products

Please note: at the time of writing, Woohoo does not have its own sunscreen. But we hope to one day!
