For those who haven’t found Reddit.com yet, the site consists entirely of member-run forums. Whatever topic you can think of, there’s sure to be a thread for it.

A deep dive into Reddit reveals a sense of community and support among female users, who often gather in groups focused on women’s health issues, both mental and physical. Members can share their experiences while educating others seeking advice on, for example, interacting with doctors, taking medication, and discovering the hidden causes behind their illnesses.

Any advice you get on Reddit should be vetted and verified with a doctor you trustespecially regarding drugs, supplements, or any product you consume or put on your skin. Most of the women in such Reddit communities are well-meaning, but not medical professionals. The advice you read may not always apply to you and could lead you to false conclusions, but it can be a great starting point for discussions with your medical professionals.

If you’re looking to commiserate, discover new answers, or just vent, we’d highly recommend these welcoming women-only Reddit groups.

R/Perimenopause

Almost everyone knows about menopause, but a surprisingly small number of women have been educated about, or even heard of, the precursor to this major, hormonal life change. Perimenopause refers to the few to several years of hormonal changes that precede menopause, and this stage of life is accompanied by a seemingly million debilitating symptoms that women in r/Perimenopause group is desperate to make amends (and after reading some of the posts on this group, we don’t blame them).

There are the usual suspects, like posts about curing night sweats and underarm odor, and then there are the stories of endless, sleepless nights, intense brain fog, and mental breakdowns. Perimenopause is tough, but when you’re among women in the same boat, you’re likely to find ways to manage this hormonal roller-coaster ride.

A second, similar group, r/perimenopause_under45it’s also worth checking out for younger women experiencing symptoms.

R/Menopause

You don’t have to be 50+ to start learning about menopause from women who are experiencing it themselves. We love the team r/Menopause because it is a welcoming space for women of all ages who are either experiencing menopause symptoms, starting menopause, or want to start preparing for this inevitable stage of life.

Just like perimenopause, menopause is not simply the end of a woman’s menstrual cycle. It’s a whole mind-body evolution, and unfortunately, not often for the better. The effects of declining estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone show up in member posts about low or no sex drive, awful moods, and nighttime anxiety, among a host of other symptoms that have women sharing advice on supplements, exercise routines, and how to get dismissive doctors to finally listen.

This Reddit group doesn’t just provide relief to fellow workers. They give female patients a voice to take charge of their health, even if menopause is medically “natural.”

r/Female Hair Loss

Although no official studies have been published (yet), it appears that women are losing hair at increasingly younger ages and in greater amounts than was seen in previous generations. Unofficially, many hairdressers, doctors and female sufferers agree and the existence of groups such as r/Female Hair Loss proves they may be right.

If team members have experienced telogen outflowa temporary but occasionally recurring condition of hair loss caused by stress or trauma or genetic hair loss due to one of several types of alopecia or hair loss due to conditions such as PCOS or a thyroid condition.

No matter the reason, this Reddit group is dedicated to helping women with hair loss find answers and solutions. Women often post photos to show symptoms, share success stories after trying medications, supplements or lifestyle changes, and encourage each other to find confidence, even when treatments don’t work as planned.

R/ADHDWomen

Tired of being told ADHD, whether diagnosed or not, is just another TikTok trend? So are the ladies inside r/ADHDWomena Reddit group for anyone who has or thinks they may have ADHD and often one of its many co-occurring disabilities.

Most ADHD research has been conducted on men, meaning women have been largely underdiagnosed, misdiagnosed, and even ignored for decades, all while suffering in a society that simply wasn’t made for the female ADHD brain.

This Reddit group is an amazing space for women to come together and validate their ADHD experience, even when that experience may be different from their own.

For ladies whose ADHD comes with an extra helping of spice (or the complete lack thereof, which is just as valid), check out the sister band, r/ADHDWomenAfterDark.

R/AutismIn Women

Autism is a strange moment in the social media spotlight that is both liberating and yet often wrong. While autistic traits in women are under-researched and misunderstood, and therefore need a spotlight, much of the information on social media is misleading or even dismissive of the diagnosis of autism.

His ladies r/AutismInWomen maintain an open-minded conversation about anyone who is or may be autistic, dispelling rumors and validating the lived experiences of others. The group also welcomes undiagnosed or suspected autistic women, and trans, non-binary and queer women.

No topic is too much for this genuine group of women, from how autism affects members’ sex lives to favorite comfort foods, movies and clothes to navigating work and dating.

Other great Reddit groups that focus on women’s health

Do you have a specific body health concern? There’s a Reddit group for that!

R/PMDD – Premenstrual Depressive Disorder, otherwise known as PMDDis a more extreme form of PMS that can affect your mood at different stages of your cycle. As if that wasn’t rough enough, PMDD often makes life more difficult for ladies with neurodivergent brains, hence the need for off-topic Reddit groups like r/PMDDxADHD.

R/PCOS – Polycystic Ovary Syndrome or PCOSis a hormonal disorder that can cause mental and physical health problems, including severe painful periods, hair loss and weight gain, and extreme fatigue. The disease can also directly cause endometrial cancer if left untreated. This Reddit support group is a safe community for women with PCOS to discuss treatments, define symptoms, or just hold space for their fellow women.

E/Women’s Health – Not sure where to take your health problems? This group generalizes – you guessed it! – concerns about health and the female body. We find that the group emphasizes access to abortion and provides links to telehealth services that can help women access their reproductive rights. The sidebar on the group’s main page also provides links to more specific women’s groups that deal with many concerns, such as r/contraceptive, r/endo for babies with endometriosisand r/periods.
