5 Things You Never Knew About Her Private Parts

When it comes to vaginas, knowledge is usually power. This means that anything you can do to educate yourself about how they work, what makes them wet, what makes them feel good, and what makes them orgasm will obviously put you way ahead of the game.

In fact, ask any new partner how she likes to be touched down there, and she’ll undoubtedly be happy to show you all the things she likes to be done in her nether regions. But, are there V facts that someone with a trick might be more likely to leave unreported?

No matter how much porn you’ve watched, how much lady parts you’ve looked down on, or even how closely you’ve paid attention to sex, there are a few things you’ve probably missed about vaginas—that you’d never know unless a woman told you.

So to get to the bottom of it, we asked some women to share what they’d rather a male partner not know about their vaginas (and vulva) (and pubic mounds).

Read on for a mind-blowing look at some facts most women probably won’t tell you about their private parts:

1. Sometimes it smells for no reason

Vaginas, like any part of the body, can have their own odors. And while there are plenty of products to keep your vagina smelling like a rose, they’re usually considered a bad idea, as they can mess up your vaginal pH and lead to discomfort and infections.

“I’m super clean and I rinse every time I shower,” says Magan, 29. “But even so, there are certain times of the month (usually right after I finish my period) where it smells like vagina and there’s nothing you can do about it. Well, there are things you can do about it. I’ve never had to deal with the smell, and I’ve never had any of them complain, but bringing up the fact that your vagina smell fluctuates depending on where you are in your cycle, I wouldn’t put it up for debate.

In any case, penises are also body parts that can smell pretty strong — though in their case, cleaning them thoroughly is good for your health, not bad!

2. He doesn’t always know what he looks like

Unlike penises, vaginas do not protrude from the body. Without some serious flexibility, some quality mirror time, or some X-rated selfies, you can have one your whole life and not have a clear sense of what it looks like — especially if you let your pubic hair grow.

“My husband doesn’t even know this, but I’ve never really seen my vagina up close,” says Michele, 31. “Thankfully he always knew his way around (one of the many reasons I married him). But I think a lot of women wouldn’t say they don’t really know what it looks like. I’m down for myself and I think those comments are endearing.

Another factor? Sexist slut-shaming behaviors can make some feel anxious or nervous about getting too intimate with their vaginas. But think about it: Have you ever taken a close look at your own butt?

3. How Hairy it really gets

Unlike people with penises, people with vaginas grow a bunch of pubic hair during adulthood, and without regular maintenance it can turn into a serious bush – especially if you’re on the hairier end of the spectrum.

“If I don’t keep up with the maintenance on my vajayjay, it looks like a shingle,” says Tiffanie, 26. “I’ve seriously considered lasering with a more permanent hair removal treatment, because whenever I shave or even wax, my stubble comes back with a vengeance.”

4. How much money does she spend to take care of it?

How about hairy? General cultural beauty standards teach women that body hair of all kinds is a no-no, and porn will reinforce this, as many mainstream porn stars have completely shaved their pubic mounds.

“Finding a Brazilian wax that you trust to get all up in your V is pretty hard,” says Amber, 25. “When you find a candle that relaxes you and makes the whole process as quick and painless as possible, are you really going to try to haggle with that woman? Kids don’t know that either!).

Therefore, it is no surprise that many women treat their pubic hair as another part of their beauty routine and spend on maintenance in the same way that they buy beauty products or pay for haircuts and dyes at the salon.

6. How often does he do Kegels

Kegel exercises – also known as kegels – are a means of keeping the pelvic floor muscles tight by flexing them internally. These exercises are often done by people hoping to help their vaginas stay ‘tight’, but they can also be useful for those recovering from injury or long periods of bed rest – and men can do kegels for more control over urination and ejaculation.

“I’m doing them right now as I answer your question,” writes Melissa, 32. “I’m a fitness trainer and a firm advocate of women doing kegels to improve exercises like planks. But I think it would be pretty unlikely for someone I’m intimate with to know that while we’re working out or watching things together we’re having dinner. Even if my motivations for doing it aren’t purely sexual.”
