If you’ve ever sought the expertise of a nutritionist, chances are you’re looking for more than someone to tell you to “eat more vegetables” or write you a generic meal plan (hello, chatGPT). Whatever you do, if you’re looking for any kind of nutritional advice, make sure you’re getting your information from a registered dietitian, not a nutritionist, “nutrition coach” or “nutrition consultant.”

Did you know that there is a big difference between a registered dietitian and a nutritionist?

Technically, anyone can call themselves a nutritionist! To be a registered dietitian, you must have a Bachelor’s degree in nutrition (master’s degrees required starting in 2024), complete a dietetic internship, pass a national registration exam, and be licensed in your state to practice. To be a nutritionist you can go online and take a 2 week course.

Registered dietitians are qualified health professionals who are trained to assess, diagnose and treat eating and nutrition problems on an individual level.

At Nutrition Awareness, our Orlando-based dietitians are licensed experts who combine science-based nutrition with practical, real-world solutions tailored to your lifestyle, culture and health needs. Whether you’re trying to lose weight, manage a medical condition like PCOS or high blood pressure, or simply eat healthier to feel better, we’ve got your back.

You know how an outfit can look amazing on your best friend but not fit you right? So is nutrition… Just because someone has results for themselves doesn’t mean they understand the physiology and complexities of the body and how it interacts with food and how those complexities can vary from person to person.

How it works

First, you will start with an initial consultation. We’ll start by getting to know you, understanding your current habits, frustrations, symptoms and what questions/topics you want to make sure we’re covered on the first visit. We want to know what a typical day is like for you, any specific cravings you often have, sleep duration and quality, stress levels, history with nutrition and diets, medications and supplements, and your biggest health and wellness downfalls. First, we want a clear picture of where you are now, then we’ll talk about your ultimate goals and what you want to achieve. Our job is to help you bridge the gap between these two places!

What we won’t do is just give you a meal plan and say “eat this.” We are also not going to sell you any products, pills, appetite suppressants or supplements. Instead, we’ll play detective to find the best nutrition for your body, teach you the “why” behind our recommendations, and get you living your best life!

Why work with a local Orlando dietitian?

We live and work here in Orlando too! We know which specific products and brands are available in which grocery stores. We can recommend healthy local restaurants and where to stock up on the best produce. Need ideas on what to order at popular chains around Orlando like Chipotle and Starbucks? Made!

We are connected to the Orlando community. We have built relationships with the best mental health therapists in the area, concierge doctors, physical therapists, personal trainers, gyms and exercise studios. At Nutrition Awareness, we’ll help you create a framework for your life that works for all areas of your health and wellness in your lifestyle, whether you’re a downtown professional, a busy parent in Winter Park, or a distance runner training for the next Disney race.

We also think there’s something to seeing a dietitian in person. Of course, we offer virtual consultations, but there’s nothing like personal accountability.

The nutritional awareness difference

Sure, you can google it and try to figure it out yourself, but if you’re reading this, you’ve probably already tried that route. Why not seek the help of a professional? We’ve helped our clients lose weight, gain muscle, improve performance, repair their relationship with food and find their confidence without pills, shots or injections.

At Nutrition Awareness, we do things differently than you may have experienced at a medical weight loss facility, medspa or weight loss clinic.

Our goal is for our customers to never have to pay for another diet, weight loss program or meal plan again. Do you have a complicated history with food? So do we.

Let’s build your healthy future together!
