As we all know, motherhood changes everything. And this can even include how we see ourselves when we look in the mirror. Between deprivation of sleep, postpartum recovery, body changes and maintenance of tiny people, dressed for the day can feel like yet another thing in our endless list that many of us usually do not have the energy to think very much. Because we are exhausted, we just grab the best, clearer thing that fits and works for what we need for the day. It may seem small and stupid, but by choosing how you present yourself to the world can really have a greater impact than you think. And what if this daily decision could be something that lifts you up instead of weighing you?

In this Chick Chat episode, I sat down with my girlfriend Sarah Villarreal, a certified style coach and personal stylist who helps modern mothers to regain their confidence in style. As the two mom itself, Sarah deeply understands the identity shift that happens to motherhood and how what we wear can be a powerful way to reconnect with ourselves during this transition.

What is Sarah Villarreal?

Sarah Villarre is a one Certified Style Coach® and personal stylist Dedicated to the help of modern mothers to discover their trust through style. A former fashion designer and a mom of two, Sarah understands firsthand how clothes tells a strong story about who we are, especially during the years of maternity identity.

With a degree from the Institute of Design and Commercial Fashion, clothing has been designed for some of the top brands in the industry and worked in a technical design for bags. Her career has taken her from styling clients to Rodeo Drive to navigate the raw, real times of life after childbirth, giving her a unique perspective on the connection between fashion and self-care.

Over the years, it has become the resource for friends and family who needed help with their wardrobes, either for family photos, vacations or just finding the perfect daily appearance. Her time as a home mom has enhanced a strong truth: investing in yourself-how you feel how you show-positively every area of life.

While fashion has always been her passion, Sarah knows that style can feel overwhelming or away for many women. He was there too. Now, it is on a mission to show that mothers who prioritize themselves are not a luxury, they are a necessity.

What did we talk about

This discussion was so fun and refreshing style, self-care and identity in motherhood. Sarah and I discussed the deep relationship between what we wear and how we feel, especially during the tender years after childbirth and beyond.

Here are a few moments from our conversation:

  • Because style matters (especially for mothers). Sarah shared how clothes are not just to look good, it’s about feel good And honoring the time of life you are. When your outside reflects your interior, you walk higher, you speak more confidence and appears as the best version of yourself.
  • Because investment in your wardrobe is not selfish. For so many moms, time or money for clothes for themselves (not their children) feels forgiving or unnecessary. But Sarah reinstalls it as an investment in your mental and emotional well -being. It’s not about clothes. It is about returning to you.
  • What to do when nothing fits or feels right. Whether you are in his thickness after childbirth or years in motherhood, we all have “I have nothing to wear” collapse. Sarah offered simple mockery of mentality and practical strategies to help mothers build a wardrobe that fits their real body and real life.
  • The “mom uniform” that are cute and functional. Think: Ghettoes + oversized blazer, joggers + tee + denim jacket, maxi + denim vest dress. Sarah shares ways to create clothes that make you feel polished without sacrificing comfort.
  • How to browse the challenges of style and body image changes. Sarah shares the most common matches he hears from mothers and how to gently overcome them without comparison or pressure to “bounce back”.
  • How to use style to regain trust. We talked about how dressed can be an act of self-love. Even the smallest sting or intentional option can shift the way you carry yourself all day. And with our children watching how we show in this world, this is a good example for them. Shows them that it’s not only ok but essential to find our own priority list.

Final thoughts

Maternity does not mean to lose yourself. And it certainly doesn’t mean you have to settle for a wardrobe that no longer reflects the amazing woman you are. With some thoughtful choices and some encouragement, you can slowly build a closet (and confidence) that supports your real, beautiful, constantly evolving life.
