Phil Stutz, True Magic & Healing Mankind: Useful Tools For

In Part 1 I introduced to two men who had a strong influence on my life and career. The philosopher Paul Tillich introduced me to three fundamental questions in life:

  1. What about men, women and society?
  2. How would we be if we were healed, whole, did?
  3. How do we move from breakage to wholeness?

The psychiatrist Dr. Phil Stutz presented me in the three inevitable realities of life that we all need to tour and integrate, which I described in Part 1.

  1. Its sector pain.
  2. Its sector uncertainty.
  3. Its sector Continuous work.

“The three areas, in combination, unlock the real magic, not a false power,” says Dr. Stutz. “As soon as you learn to move the pain, you will get the ability to expand; once you face uncertainty, you will gain the ability to decide and create; and once you embrace continuous work, you will get the ability to be infinite.”

Get to know the power of your life

“Throughout my career,” says Dr. Stutz, “I will often find myself facing a particular type of patient. Usually, it would be a middle -aged man. I would say that “I can’t control my temper, my wife says I’m here, desperate, because I don’t know how to know what my mission is. ”

Instead of making a psychiatric diagnosis based on its symptoms, which Dr. Stutz (and I agree with him wholeheartedly) has limited utility, he will, he will,

“Explain to him that I cannot tell him his mission and that the source of knowledge for the purpose of his life is not on his head.

Most of us have a sense of our life power, but in times of crisis we often coordinate, become overwhelmed, you lose the connection.

“The power of life,” says Dr. Stutz, “is a deep and mysterious force responsible for intuition, detection and recovery. With connection with it, you will develop stronger instincts, although faith will be decisive for this transition.”

I found that when I feel strong in body, mind and spirit and do the practices I have learned over the years, I feel associated with the power of my life. But when I get out of the piece, which we all do, I have to reconnect. As usual, Dr. Stutz has a handy tool for it.

It is a three -party pyramid, starting from the base.

“You will start by getting out of your ass. TV off the TV and walk around the block,” says Dr. Stutz.

  1. Contact your body. They move. Exercise, walk, swim. Whatever makes you feel alive.
  2. Log in with others. When we feel down and depressing, we were hungry for someone else to fix us magically. Approaching and doing something for others is a good start to get in touch with the power of our lives. Find a few ways of connecting. Smile, talk to a stranger. Do something nice for your wife or children.
  3. To be good to yourself. We often treat others better than we treat ourselves. Find ways to be good for yourself. Be polite. Watch “Self-Speech” which is often negative. Take a warm bath, take a massage, whatever kindness you can give yourself is a blessing.

I believe that the power of life is more present in our relationships with our bodies, other people and ourselves. I often think about it as a “gold thread” that connects me to life what it is.

There is a poem by Parker J. Palmer who begins with a line from William Stafford, a mentor by Robert Bly, who helps me to consolidate me when I feel lost. Named, Everything falls.

Everything falls

There is a thread you follow. Goes between
things that change. But it doesn’t change.

William Stafford

Sooner or later, everything falls away.
You, the work you have done, your successes,
Big and small, and your failures. Those
moments you were lightweight, in parallel
The times that took place one by night.
Friends, the people you loved
who loved you, those who would like
You sick, none of them are forever. Everything is
Soon to go, or go, or a long time.

Everything falls except the thread
You have followed, without knowing, throughout.
The thread that connects all you have
was done and finished, the thread you didn’t know
You watched until, toward the end,
You see that the thread is what is left
As everything else falls.

Follow this thread as much as you can and
You will find that it does not end but weave
In the unthinkable vastness of life. Your
Life was never the solo turn that seemed to be.
Was always part of the great weave of
nature and humanity, a luxury we
Meet only as we follow ours
small yarn at the place where they
Merger with the unlimited whole.

Each of our threads runs its course, then
unites in life together. This wonderful wallpaper –
This masterpiece in which we live forever.

Parker J. Palmer

I also like the simple poem The way they are by William Stafford, who inspired Everything falls.

The way they are

There is a thread you follow. Goes between
things that change. But it doesn’t change.
People are wondering what you are looking for.
You have to explain about the thread.
But it is difficult for others to see.
While you keep it, you can’t get lost.
Tragedies occur. People are injured
or die? And you suffer and you get older.
Nothing you do can stop unfolding.
You never leave the thread.

Understanding the structure of reality: universe one and universe two

“There are two views, or conceptual contexts, about understanding the universe or what is the reality,” says Dr. Stutz. “The value in the universe one is defined by mathematics. Anything dominated by mathematics, whether it is a culture or a religion, eventually becomes completely money. ”

“Universe Two is a very different play field,” says Dr. Stutz. “In the universe two, money means nothing. The results mean nothing. The only thing that matters in the universe two is the present moment: at this moment, the value of the universe two creates.

In the universe one, we see ourselves as “lonely rangers”, separate entities, disconnected from the community of life, we feel that we must dominate and control nature, other people, ultimately ourselves. It is a lonely, scary world.

In the Universe two, we are deeply connected to everything – other people, animals and plants, even rocks, wind and rain. We are never alone, we are part of something beautiful, infinite and mysterious.

Tony Kushner, who wrote the winning game of the Pulitzer Award, Angels in America, said,

“The smallest indivisible human unit is two people, not one, one is a fiction, from such nets of soul societies, the social world, the human life, and it also plays.”

Kushner acknowledges that in many ways the reality that dominates so much from our lives in modern times, the universe, is a fiction. The main reasons why people are so self -destructive and miserable these days are that we have lost the connection to the universe.

“Working the ass, making a lot of money and retirement is not as good as Universe One’s imagination,” says Dr. Stutz. “If you want to know who you really are, ask yourself what you will spend your time even if you knew you will never make you money.”

Dr. Stutz continues to say,

“If you are willing to leave part of your income for something else, whatever it is, then you have discovered your superior power. For example, I lose money when I work for the development of these books because I don’t see many patients.”

[Dr. Stutz charges $700 per hour for private therapy sessions. He has a well-known therapy practice in Los Angeles and is known for his celebrity clientele. His approach to therapy is often described as direct and results-oriented.]

In Part 3 of this series, I will describe more about the tools oriented to the results that Dr. Stutz share with his clients. If you have not already registered in my free weekly newsletter you can do so here.
