Frederick Marx is an academy and the creator and writer of Emmy. He is best known for Hoop’s dreams. In a recent article by Shahnaz Mahmud published by the Sundance Mahmud Institute, he says,

“Once in a rare movie comes together that shows a cinematic narrative in its absolute best, shaking us at our core and encouraging us to think differently about the world in which we live.”

Continues to say,

“Wreath dreams He finished it – and many more. The athletic documentary, which records the lives of two young people in Chicago, as they seek dreams of playing professional basketball – and escape their dangerous environment – is still regarded as a strong job. “

Hoop Dreams let Marx wonders who exactly does what is needed to guide the teenage boys all over the threshold in maturity. Made the mini television series Boys in men? To find out, wanting to hear directly from the teenagers themselves, how they approach the challenges of adult masculinity.

Marx created many more movies, books and articles through his company Warrior Films.

In his book, Rituals in a good life, Marx says,

“I think the biggest crime of the last two centuries were the countless millions of children who have entered the world but have never taught to discover their unique purpose in life.”

He continues to quote Michael Meade who reminds us of what is at stake:

“When a culture does not provide formal transit or start ceremonies, people find their own, or they never find them and never really find the attraction of their lives and when a society or culture does not attempt to create circumstances in which they can work creatively, you usually get destructive.”

We recognize the impact of these lacking transit ceremonies on the behavior of many of our boys, as well as many adult men at all levels of society – from bedrooms and meeting rooms in our federal government.

“All these men have something in common,” says psychologist Robert Moore and Douglas Gillette. “They are all boys who pretend to be men. The kind of ‘male’ is a pretense for male age.”

Historian, Ruth Ben-Ghiat, describes political leaders around the world who “boys pretending to be men”. In her book, Strongmen: Mussolini in the present, Says,

“For ours is the time of authoritarian leaders: self -proclaimed saviors of the nation who avoid accountability while robbing the people of truth, treasure and protection of democracy. They use masculinity as a symbol of power and a political weapon. Taking whatever you want, and the removal with it, it is proof of male power. They use propaganda, corruption and violence to stay in power. ”

Dr. Mark Schillinger and the Ultimate Weekend of Young Men (YMUW)

All young people, males and females need transit ceremonies. However, when we miss our boys and young people, the results are catastrophic for everyone. There is an African proverb:

“The kid who is not hugged by the village will burn it to feel his warmth.”

We all know the violent behavior of boys and men.

The final weekend of young men was founded by Dr. Mark Schillinger, DC. Mark was inspired by Brad Leslie, who started a weekend guidance program for young men in Vancouver, Canada in 1990.

He put a call for help in the Gulf area and with the commitment and cooperation of dozens of mothers, fathers and advisers born on the final weekend of young men. I had the opportunity to consult Mark about one of my recent podcasts. We had a live discussion that You can watch here.

In 2012, YMUW was one of the 25 organizations chosen to participate in the first international Passage Council Council, founded by Frederick Marx. YMUW has now created more than 50 start events, graduating more than 3500 young men. I asked Mark to tell us a little more about the weekend.

“The purpose of the weekend is to offer young men a weekend full of incredible fun and challenges, while creating a foundation for a sure and successful adulthood, learning the importance of teamwork, developing a sense of integration.”

I recently received an email from Mark for an upcoming weekend.

“We are excited to announce that the registration is now open for 2025, The final weekend of young men. A modern adventure camp rite based on the desert for young men aged 13 to 20 years. ”

This life -changing weekend that appears in CNN’s, “This is life with Lisa Ling,“Gives our sons the opportunity to:

  • Get away from digital distractions.
  • To be guided by experienced, trained, men of our community.
  • They face significant challenges aimed at building his character and trust.
  • Discover who really is and how it wants to appear in the world.
  • He drains his energy constructively.

The next weekend will take place on 19-22 June 2025. You can receive more information this weekend as well as other events for young people and their families, visiting the final website of the Youth Weekend: https://www.ymuw.org/.

You can also receive more information on this event and other support programs for young people and their families, directly contacting Mark:
