Sexual and reproductive health issues have signed a statement from various academic magazines in the field of sexuality, sexual health and rights and gender, responding to US government researchers to withdraw all research manuscripts, Bisexual and transgender) review.

It is the view of this statement and the sexual and reproductive health, that these efforts are clear examples of censorship of science and therefore a political attempt to prevent the discovery of knowledge.

“We maintain our commitment to publish and promote research on these issues. Articles that have been accepted and “in the press” will be published without authors’ changes.

Statement on the importance of sexuality and gender research

“We, the authors of the leading gender -related scientific journals, respond to the call for US government researchers to withdraw all research manuscripts considered for publication by external scientific journals containing terms such as gender, transgender, LGBT, Eliminating the programs of variety, shares and inclusion and the suspension of the National Institutes for the health of grants and meetings.

Research on sexuality and gender is vital to identifying the social, cultural and medical needs of the populations and the treatment of inequalities between populations. Research on sexuality is not new, but it has a long tradition to enhance our understanding of the human condition and to deal with medical, social and cultural damage.

Any restriction on the research and coercion of specific research agendas is a violation of academic freedom and integrity. We believe that academic research must be free from political doctrines and scientists must be able to explore free aspects of the human situation – including empirical phenomena that may be considered “controversial” by some political leaders. Without research that causes preliminary perceptions, we would not have fundamental knowledge of things such as gravity or medicine. Without questioning the non -popular views, we would continue to have racial separation and criminalize homosexuality.

The abolition of certain terms from academic documents and the restriction of research on specific issues represents an attempt to ignore or delete these populations and may have catastrophic consequences for health and prosperity. We believe that these changes could lead to a reflux to important milestones achieved in recent years, such as efforts to eliminate HIV, along with the basic information needed to treat people in health environments.

Although it intends to control the research on sexuality and gender, removing these terms will affect all research. Many suggested keywords, such as gender, nationality, prejudice and socio -economic status, are integral to all types of research to understand individual and social differences between groups of people. Removing data sets and integrated information about specific populations will disproportionately affect people with reduction, who are already facing significantly worse physical and mental health.

As authors of these magazines, we maintain our commitment to publish and promote research on these issues. Articles that have been accepted and “in the press” will be published without authors’ changes. The articles already published in our magazines will not be abolished. Academic research will not be controlled and we continue to encourage submissions to these issues aligned with our goals, values and missions. We recognize that things are changing rapidly and as the authors continue to watch and respond properly. “
