If you have a child who seems to fight with every ounce of his existence. . . You’re not alone. While some children are easily dragged, others – especially those who are particularly sensitive, skeptical and intense – fight with clearance, leaving parents exhausted and desperate for solutions. In this episode of ChatI sit down with Macall Gordon sleep expert to discuss why traditional sleep tips often fail these “Livewire” kids and what parents can do. With years of research in sleep strategies for mental health and temperament, Macall shares the knowledge that supports science to help parents navigate to sleep with compassion, patience and a really -functioning plan.

Who is Macall Gordon?

Macall Gordon He has a Masters Degree in Applied Psychology from the University of Antioch in Seattle with specialization based on infant mental health research, sleeping and parents’ culture tips. He also has a degree in science in human biology from Stanford University. Macall conducted and presented its own research on advice on temperament, sleep and parental responsibility at infant and children’s development conferences and is a certified noble sleep coach, as well as a selected provider of the Maven Clinic Telecommunication Platform. He is also the author of the new book Why won’t you sleep?!: An approach that changes toy for exhausted parents without stop, super alarm, children of great feeling. Macall comes to this project because she had two sensitive, especially, intense children and did not sleep for 18 years.

Book with a green background titled Why Don't Sleep?! by Macall Gordon and Kim West. It has a toddler with curly hair looking up. The text highlights the book as a guide to the parents of warning, older children aged 6 months to 5 years.

What did we discuss?

In this episode, I talk to Macall about sleep strategies for children with warning temperaments. We know that each child is different. However, when it comes to sleep, the parents of highly sensitive children are not always prepared for what the time to sleep can bring. So we had to take the scoop from Macall. Here are many of the questions we covered in our conversation:

  • Tell us about your trip by sleeping your children.
  • What is a “livewire”, and how do these characteristics affect sleep and parental care?
  • How do current sleeping information and research fail to consider temperament?
  • What are the necessary alternatives that need to be examined during sleep work with “Livewires”?
  • Tell us about the “Big Four Strategies” about sleep success.
  • How can parents create a step -by -step plan for their child using a time -tested, documented approach that does not require that children just cry?
  • We know that sleeping (or teaching of sleep) may be exhaustive to parents. Can you recommend any tips for tired parents going through the process?
  • What are some of the privileges of being a “Livewire” child?

Sleep challenges with extremely sensitive and intense children may be beyond frustrating, but understanding the way temperament affects sleep is a player-changer. As Macall Gordon explained, these kids are not choosing to resist sleep. On the contrary, their perception, perseverance and great feelings make it difficult to settle. With the right approach, parents can support their child’s natural sleeping needs without endless battles or forcing a not working method. We are so grateful that Macall could share her ideas with us in this episode!
