Can tweens, teens and children use natural deodorant? In short, the answer is – yes, absolutely!

Natural deodorant is the *perfect* way to help your child or teen manage their body odor. It can also be a Really great way to open a conversation about personal hygiene.

We all know there’s no such thing as a Parenting Rule Book (if only one!), so when it comes to helping your growing person deal with their body odor, we need our own clever ways to do it without to feel uncomfortable. Especially considering body odor tends to go hand in hand with puberty.

As adults, we know that body odor is completely normal. However, for some younger people, the hormonal changes that cause body odor can often start when they are as young as eight or nine years old (and even younger for some!). Many children are unaware of their own body odor, so bringing up the subject early can help reduce self-consciousness later and help your child feel prepared.

A great way to start the conversation is to talk about personal wellness. you can discuss the importance of daily exercise and a healthy diet and gradually progress to personal hygiene practices and how to fight body odor the healthy, natural way.

Take it, BO!

While you likely grew up spraying your armpits with antiperspirant (as many times as they’re inappropriate!), a natural deodorant is a great product to include in your kid-friendly BO-busting toolbox.

Natural deodorants are free of the questionable ingredients used in antiperspirants. Instead of using aluminum salts, which clog pores and stop your body’s natural sweating process, most natural deodorants use plant and mineral ingredients and essential oils to successfully combat underarm odor without preventing healthy sweating.

(Read more about why sweating is good for you here!)

Incorporating a smart array of natural moisture-absorbing and odor-neutralizing ingredients ensures that natural deodorants are safe for your underarms and completely safe for your tween or teen. Just make sure you show them how to apply it correctly to get the best results.

Which perfume is best for children?

The entire Woohoo range has been tried and tested by kids of all ages and we have a few that we think are best suited to sensitive young skin, but this will vary depending on the age and sensitivity of your teen or tween’s skin.

When looking for a natural deodorant for kids, we recommend tweens choose one of our milder formulas – usually starting with one that doesn’t contain bicarb.

SUGGESTION: If you are sensitive to natural deodorant, you may be sensitive to baking soda. It’s an impressive deodorant, but it can be the culprit for irritation. Although we combine it with ingredients that minimize the potential for irritation, young or very sensitive skin may be better off avoiding it completely without bicarb.

For example, Mellow is our original bicarb-free deodorant formula, and it’s also free of essential oils, for the all-natural fragrance-free skin-loving deodorant.

Us Tango natural deodorant is also bicarb-free, but has an invigorating tangerine and lemon scent that screams “happiness.”

In general, teens can choose from any of our natural deodorants or give our Sample Packs a whirl. We’ve noticed that teenagers tend to love our Surf scent, or teens who are particularly mousey have big wins with Wild (Wild is extra strength and contains extra baking soda).

When it comes to choosing natural deodorant for your kids, why not invite them to choose their scent? After all, letting your child choose their own deodorant will make them feel empowered and more likely to actually use it!

Keeping BO at bay

In addition to introducing natural deodorant, it is also worth educating children on what actually causes body odor. After all, even some adults don’t realize it’s the mixture of sweat and bacteria on the skin – as opposed to sweat alone.

Understanding the importance of personal hygiene can help young people take positive steps to eliminate body odor and keep their skin fresh. Here are some tips to help your child smell sweet.

  • Teach them the importance of showering daily
  • Make sure they know how to wash properly (even natural deodorant should be rinsed off to give the pits some deodorant-free time!)
  • Encourage them to wash after sports activities
  • Help them see that personal hygiene is their friend and can actually be fun with the right products
  • Make sure they wear clean clothes everyday and not the same underwear for a week (hey, it happens)

Don’t forget skin hygiene

Maintaining good hygiene is not only important to help eliminate body odor, but it will also help your child keep their skin happy and healthy.

Because teenagers are at an age where acne and pimples usually start to sprout, gentle daily cleansing removes dead skin cells, dirt and bacteria from the skin’s surface.

This helps limit the build-up of oil and dirt, which can cause skin irritation and annoying breakouts.

While you’re hereβ€¦πŸ˜‰

As with deodorants, it’s best to choose skincare products that are gentle and free of harsh ingredients. Oh, and keep it simple. Wash away. Hydration. PROTECTION FACTOR. This is!

In addition to switching your teen to a natural deodorant, we also recommend spoiling them with the Clear + Calm 3 Step Bundle Face (for oily skin / acne / teens) to give them not only healthy, happy pouts but fresh, clear skin very!

We also have these goodies in sample size here so you can take them for a test drive before committing to the full size range. πŸ‘
