Here are some of our favorite natural and organic deodorants that don’t carry the health risks that regular brands do:

Free of all the aforementioned chemicals, Green Tidings deodorant is organic, vegan and certified cruelty-free. The ingredient list includes tapioca starch, coconut oil, baking soda, magnesium oil, shea butter, candelilla wax, and lavender essential oil. As a bonus, all Green Tiding products are fully recyclable and manufactured in solar-powered facilities.

Unlike most other deodorants, Primal Pit Paste was specifically designed to allow the body to do what it was designed to do: sweat. By not preventing the body from flushing out toxins, Primal Pit Paste keeps your pores open and breathable without the embarrassment of body odor.

Made with organic shea butter, arrowroot powder, baking soda, coconut oil, lavender oil and vitamin E derived from sunflower, it will keep you smelling fresh and clean, even during the most strenuous workouts. While not pore-clogging, the additions of arrowroot powder and baking soda will help keep your skin dry. Primal Pit Paste comes in a jar, not a stick – just apply a pea-sized amount to your fingers and rub into your underarms.

The formula for Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant is quite effective in neutralizing odors and absorbing moisture while moisturizing the skin. The ingredient list may sound familiar: shea butter, baking soda, arrowroot powder, and vitamin E, with the new additions of cocoa bean butter and hop extracts.

Also sold by the jar, each container of Schmidt’s comes with a small spatula for easier application. Those who are sensitive to scents can get the unscented version, but there are so many unique and wonderful scents like bergamot and lime, ylang-ylang and calendula, and cedar wood and juniper.

Available as a roll, stick, stone, spray and wet towel, CRYSTAL essence deodorants harness the power of natural mineral salts to keep you fresh all day. It works by creating an invisible barrier against odors caused by bacteria.

Although potassium alum is the key ingredient, CRYSTAL essence also contains purified water, baking soda, heptyl glucoside (a nonionic surfactant from sugar and castor beans), benzoic acid, cellulose (a plant-based thickener), gellan gum, and zinc gluconate (natural preservative). All deodorants in the CRYSTAL essence series are hypoallergenic and have been tested by dermatologists for safety.

The Coconut Dream range from Organic Fields of Heather is subtle and mild, with a light scent of coconut, peach and orange. Sold by the stick, it’s as stable as a lotion bar – so a little goes a long way.

Each product is handcrafted in New Hampshire with organic, non-GMO ingredients: coconut oil, shea and cocoa butter, aloe juice, beeswax, needle starch, baking soda, vitamins E and C, and essential lemon, lime, and orange oils.

Another natural rock salt deodorant, the ingredient list for Bali Secrets is short and sweet: potassium alum, seaweed extract, distilled water, coconut oil, alcohol, and aloe vera gel.

Using mineral salts will help inhibit the growth of BO-causing bacteria while supporting the idea that sweating itself is a perfectly healthy and normal bodily function. Sold as a roll-on, it is lightly scented with rose essential oil.

Available in lavender-citrus, frankincense-peach and bergamot-mint, Freedom offers stunning fragrances along with an unscented version for sensitive skin. The base formula contains coconut oil, arrowroot, beeswax and shea butter, with a blend of essential oil pairings depending on the scent.

For example, lavender-citrus deodorant contains the oils of cypress (detox), lemon (supports the immune system), coriander (anti-fungal), and lavender (disinfectant) to create those wonderful scents while also providing health benefits.

The key ingredient in PiperWai natural deodorant is activated carbon, keeping your underarms dry by absorbing 1000 times their weight in moisture. Herbal-scented, ingredients include tapioca starch, coconut oil, shea butter, rose water, cocoa butter, witch hazel, vitamin E, magnesium hydroxide, baking soda, honeysuckle flower extracts and its own proprietary blend of 11 essential oils. Gentle enough for those with the most sensitive skin, it’s pH balanced and neutralizes odors and protects your clothes from sweat stains.
