We are excited to share that Healthworks Back Bay renovations will begin next week. We will send regular communication explaining upcoming work and impacts, such as how to enter the club and access certain areas of the club.

Please note that this will have no effect on your training or Mental Health Awareness Week events, 14-17 May, as the club studios will not be affected.

We will keep you updated via email on the renovation timeline and are excited to improve the clubhouse by providing more space and equipment to help you achieve your wellness goals. Please also follow online here.

Thank you in advance for your patience as we make these improvements. Please let me know if you have any questions along the way!

5/2/24

We are excited to announce that we are renovating Healthworks Back Bay!

This will include an expanded fitness floor, members’ lounge and reception area to enhance your experience from check-in to post-workout. The result will be a spacious, modern and open space for more training, equipment, recovery and relaxation.

Soon our club will present:

  • Modern and expanded cardio and strength area with more benches, dumbbells and kettlebells
  • A second, spacious turf area for exercise and stretching
  • Day lockers for your convenience
  • A new members lounge to relax, work and chat with friends
  • A new member services office and staff workspaces, enabling us to provide better member service

Timetable

Depending on permits and other approvals, we expect to begin our renovation in the coming weeks and finish sometime in August. As the renovation timetable is fluid, we will be sending out regular communication explaining the upcoming work and impacts, such as how to enter the clubhouse and access certain areas of the clubhouse.

What to expect
Cardio equipment will be reduced during the renovation. for example approximately 10 lanes will be available instead of 28. We expect throughout the construction period that the clubhouse areas will be closed, however:

  • The course schedule of the HWX studios and team will not be affected
  • All gear will still be available in reduced quantities
  • The vast majority of active construction work will occur between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. Evenings will not be affected by active construction work.

Your training options

We intend to keep the club open throughout the renovation period, but we understand that it may affect your training routine. To help you through the summer, we plan to offer the following options:

  • Beginning May 1all Back Bay members will have free access to other Healthworks Group clubs, which include Healthworks Coolidge Corner and Cambridge; Republic Fitness in downtown Boston and GymIt Brooklyn and Watertown.
  • HWX Summer Series will return! We are working to complete our schedule to bring you weekly outdoor fitness deals throughout Cambridge, Boston and Brookline with all your favorite HWX trainers. learn more
  • HWX Digital Studio is included with your membership, allowing you to enjoy 1000s of on-demand and live, in-club lessons that you can take wherever your summer adventures take you!
  • If the options above don’t give you what you’re looking for, we’ll also offer a membership freeze at no cost from June 1st until the end of August. Click here to freeze your membership.

We will keep you updated via email on the renovation timeline and are excited to improve the clubhouse by providing more space and equipment to help you achieve your wellness goals. Please also follow here on our blog.

If you have any questions, please email healthworks@healthworksfitnes.com. Thank you for your patience!

Bathrooms/Clothing rooms

Q: Will the amenities be affected by the renovation?

ONE: During the renovation there will be a few weeks when the amenities on the long side of the locker rooms, such as showers, hot tubs, steam rooms and saunas, will be closed. While we are unsure of this timeline, we will give our members at least two weeks notice of the closure and the small side of the changing rooms and showers there will remain open.

Q: Will members have access to all the equipment offered during the renovation?

ONE: The Strength floor and the gymnastics training room will not be affected by the renovation. All endurance equipment on the top floor will be available. Cardio equipment will remain available, however, equipment available will be reduced for most of the renovation. During this time, selected strength equipment on the cardio floor will be unavailable.

Noise, Odors, Dust

Q: Will there be much turmoil at the club?

ONE: During renovation, there will be noise, dust and occasional odors related to paint etc. We will do our best to communicate when paint fumes and other odors are present, as well as particularly loud projects.

ONE: At this time, we expect the renovation to be completed sometime in August. We will announce an exact date closer to completion.
