Commonly called razor bumps, ingrown hairs look like a small pimple, a raised red bump on the skin.

Sometimes, there is pus inside the lump. To trim them short, ingrown hairs can become irritating and annoying and require immediate attention.

Female pubic hair can also appear after a Brazilian wax or laser hair removal treatment.

Let us know the reasons first.

No matter how careful you are with shaving or waxing, one inevitable thing that is bound to happen is ingrown hairs. Not only do they cause bumps and redness, they can also be painful at times.

Here are five things that can worsen ingrown hairs and what you can do to avoid them:

There are certain hair types that are prone to ingrown hairs. Therefore, you should avoid pulling hair from your skin with tweezers or using your finger nails, as this can lead to infection. Use alcohol swabs and tweezers that are sterilized before use to remove ingrown hairs.

Tight clothing may make you stick to the role of fashion, but it’s a wrong idea. Tight jeans, nylon leggings, polyester underwear can cause infection. Therefore, be sure to wear cotton clothes in the private parts that breathe easily and do not rub against the skin.

When shaving your legs, sometimes you can hold the razor too close to the skin of your legs. This can happen when your razor is dull and worn, which can stimulate irritation and lead to ingrown hairs. The best way to overcome this problem is to do waxing because it does not break the hair.

When shaving, use a thick and good shaving gel and a sharp razor. As a rule, the razor should not be used more than 6-8 times. A fresh blade goes that extra mile to prevent ingrown hairs from burning.

Be sure to lather the shave area in the direction of hair growth before shaving or having the area professionally shaved. You can use a cream or gel before shaving to soften the stubble.

5. Scratching or picking ingrown hairs in the pubic area:

Avoid doing this at all costs as it will end up further aggravating the sensitive area, causing an infection or leaving a scar.

The most common areas in females where ingrown hairs are found are the legs, armpits and pubic area. Here’s how you can tell if you have ingrown hairs:

  • Small, rounded bumps (called papules)
  • Small, pus-filled, blister-like lesions (called pustules)
  • Pain in the affected area that develops inwards
  • Itching in the affected area
  • Dark skin (or hyperpigmentation)
  • Built-in bristles

So, if you too have faced this unpleasant problem, here are five natural ways that can help you get rid of ingrown hairs, and don’t forget to moisturize your skin after the waxing process:

  • It has a good anti-inflammatory effect. Make tea from chamomile flowers and apply it on your skin.

2. Honey. It reduces the risk of infections.

  • Mix honey with lemon juice and apply it on the necessary area of your body.

3. Aspirin. It can reduce inflammation very well.

  • So mix aspirin with warm water and honey and spread the mixture on your skin. Burning may start, but this is normal because the medicine is fighting bacteria.

4. Salt. It is a natural scrub.

  • It will exfoliate your skin and help you solve the problem of ingrown hairs. Mix salt with rose water and gently massage into your skin.

5. Cucumber. It is rich in vitamin C and causes less irritation.

  • Mix cucumber with milk and apply the treatment on the necessary area of your body.

6. Tea tree oil

Natural remedies can also help treat infections that develop internally. Tea tree oil has antibiotic properties. You can use it as a topical antibiotic to get rid of bacterial infections on the bikini line.

Dilute some tea tree oil with water, apply to ingrown hair in the genital area, leave for a few minutes, then rinse. Do this twice a day for faster healing. Note that tea tree oil can burn the skin, so avoid using it if you have sensitive skin.
