Anal sex is cool now. Foot stuff has gone mainstream, opening the minds (and cheeks) of straight men to the prospect of prostate play.

“I’m seeing more and more men and women who identify as straight engage in anal play regularly,” says Dr. Evan Goldstein, founder and CEO of Bespoke Surgical and Future method, a sex care company for gay men. “Unfortunately, there’s still a lot of stigma, so I think the published data continues to underestimate how many straight men and women love anal.”

The sharp judgments surrounding those who may want to put things in or near their backs have slowly disappeared with the increase in education and resources around healthy and safe anal sex practices. “I think people are becoming more comfortable with their sexuality and exploring what they like in the bedroom,” says Goldstein. “All men – gay or straight – should embrace their P-spot. There are so many nerve endings in the ass, and when the prostate is properly stimulated, this combination can provide orgasms that are far more intense than penises.”

According to Goldstein, most people are still afraid to try anal sex because of preconceived notions that it will be painful, “which it shouldn’t be if it’s done right,” he notes. Some also believe that it will be messy, which also qualifies as a “myth”, as long as proper steps are taken before starting. And with this preparation comes bathing.

What is douching, you ask? Well, with the data highlighting a definite interest in anal play among men of all sexual identities and orientations, Goldstein is here to teach us a lesson about washing if necessary before anal sex and how to do it. in the safest way possible.

Should you shower before anal sex?

Douching is spraying or cleaning something with water. In this case, bathing before anal sex would be an opportunity to feel “ready” before something enters you. But is it absolutely necessary to shower before anal sex?

The short answer: no. As faeces are stored in the upper intestines and cannot be accessed or released through penetration, it is rare to experience problems unless one engages in more extreme types of sex.

Goldstein assures that if you eat a high-fiber diet (more on that below) and have a regular bowel routine, most people don’t need to shower before sex. That being said, over 80 percent of men who experience anal intercourse shower before sex to make sure there’s no “mess,” which is completely natural and nothing to be ashamed of.

What to eat before having anal sex

Since anal sex is all about the derriere, you should watch what you eat. Basically, you should eat like an athlete, avoiding foods that cause gas, bloating, or otherwise upset your tummy.

Eating foods full of insoluble fiber such as vegetables, grains, soy and whole grains is recommended a day or several hours before anal intercourse. And considering the fact that three out of four people in the world are at least somewhat lactose intolerant, you should probably avoid dairy as well.

If meals are getting boring, balance them out with some fruit and/or yogurt. Make sure you drink plenty of water (about three liters) to facilitate the flow of food through the body and for additional help, consume a spoonful of psyllium every morning with some water. Peppermint oil can help reduce gas, bloating, and diarrhea, and if an enema is on the horizon, try to avoid red meat and spicy foods. If it helps, most foods take six to eight hours to fully digest.

How to Douche

Try using the bath before washing to clean most of the canal. Using lukewarm water (which, according to Goldstein, is not the best solution to use – more on that later) will be more comfortable and effective. Lubricate the tip of your douche and your anus before inserting the tip about two or three centimeters into your rectum. Gently squeeze the water until you feel your rectum is full. Then sit on the toilet and push the water out like you would if you were going to the toilet. Repeat until the water runs clear, usually on the second round.

Because water and store-bought enemas can irritate the cells in your rectum causing dry fissures and increased mucus production, Goldstein developed a disposable rectal solution made with isotonic solution. “Isotonic” means that the solution has the same osmotic pressure as the cells of the anal canal which will not cause these aforementioned adverse health effects.

Just be careful and don’t overdo it. Cleaning too deeply – with too much force or too much water – can cause long-term problems, including dependence on the shower and irritation of the anal area. “In addition to the health risks, excessive douching can also loosen stool higher up in the colon that wouldn’t normally come into contact with anal sex, making it even messier than if you hadn’t he doesn’t wash at all,” he notes. Goldstein. “Our philosophy at Future Method is ‘less is more’ because the more volume and times you wash, the more you strip the good bacteria.”

Concerning never you should shower, you may need about an hour before intercourse to make sure all the water is out of your rectum. Most will come off as you wash… but just stay close to a toilet to be safe.

Pros and Cons of Douching

If bathing isn’t necessary, should you bother? Let’s weigh the pros and cons to make an informed decision.

The advantage is unique and obvious: no poop. Most people don’t want a mess, and with washing and bathing, it’s an assurance of a clean experience. Basically, accidents can be traumatic and bathing reduces anxiety.

The cons are a little more difficult, as many of these problems can be rare, depending on the washing method and frequency with washing. Washing with a commercial or Fleet brand enema can cause mucus and dryness in the area, which can lead to cracking, bleeding, and can increase the risk of STDs.

Excessive overwashing can also lengthen the colon and cause constipation later in life. Irresponsible douching can irritate and worsen the intestinal lining and increase the risk of rectal dysplasia, which occurs when most of the cells in the rectum become abnormal. It is considered a precancerous condition.

What kind of shower should I buy?

What is unique about the Future Method kit is the scientifically developed isotonic solution, which is easier and gentler on the rectum (and soothes the applied area). The solution can be used before or after contact to soothe and provide hydrated comfort. A medical grade lamp is included.
