At the One Year Mark

If you’re recently engaged, consider scheduling an appointment with an esthetician as early as possible. According to Joanna Vargas, esthetician to the stars, “Quick fixes are not the answer.” She emphasizes that noticeable improvements in your skin will require commitment and patience on your part. Whether you’re introducing new skincare products or undergoing treatments, or considering something more invasive like injectables, starting early is key to getting the results you want.

For people dealing with acne or rosacea, patience is essential. It may take six months or longer to notice significant improvements. This highlights the importance of improving routines and allowing plenty of time for follow-up appointments to improve treatments. Additionally, at the one-year mark, your dermatologist or skin care professional will have plenty of time to review your current skin care regimen, assess progress, and make necessary adjustments according to your personal skin care goals .

When it comes to skin care products tailored to brides-to-be, Vargas recommends incorporating specific active ingredients. Vitamin C, known for its brightening properties, and retinol, effective against fine lines, are highly recommended additions. Additionally, Vargas stresses the importance of using SPF daily if it’s not already part of your routine.

In addition, she recommends skin treatments that stimulate the production of new collagen, resulting in the reduction of fine lines, wrinkles, pore size and improved skin texture. Your esthetician can help you sort this out and find what treatments are best for you.

At the nine-month mark before the wedding, Joanna Vargas stresses the importance of maintaining a consistent skincare routine. “Consistency is key in skincare to avoid potential irritation or skin cleansing from frequent product changes,” she advises. In conjunction with your skincare regimen, you will create or explore various treatments suited to your skin’s needs.

Between six and nine months before the wedding is a strategic time to consider treatments that focus on the skin, such as laser, chemical peels, or dermaplasty. This time frame gives ample opportunity to notice improvements and recover from any side effects. Vargas notes, “Laser treatments, whether broadband light (BBL), intense pulsed light (IPL), or fractional resurfacing, often require multiple sessions about a month apart to address issues such as acne scarring, pigmentation and wrinkles.

Additionally, some brides may consider non-invasive body or scalp contouring treatments for thicker hair. Vargas suggests consulting with your skin care professionals. For example, it highlights Harklinikken as a natural hair thickening solution for your hair. For those considering options such as PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) for hair growth, prescription topical or oral supplements, a discussion with a physician to explore appropriate solutions is recommended.

As the six-month mark approaches, it’s important to adjust your diet to support vibrant, healthy skin. Prioritize a balanced diet rich in antioxidants and leafy vegetables if you haven’t already. Foods like spinach, blueberries and sweet potatoes are known for their skin-friendly benefits.

In conjunction with a healthy diet, incorporating supplements and vitamins into your routine can further improve your appearance and well-being as you approach your wedding day.

For brides who have not yet established facials or pre-wedding treatments, at least three months before the wedding is recommended to allow room for possible side effects. According to Vargas, scheduling a consultation with your physical therapist months in advance to come up with a treatment plan is ideal. In addition, Vargas typically recommends a number of treatments, including LED light treatments, deep cleansing, and microcurrent facials to help you achieve maximum results. Please also note that individual adjustments may be required based on individual skin requirements. For those without a regular facialist, seeking recommendations from a trusted dermatologist can be beneficial.

At Joanna Vargas we have an intensive 3 month bridal skin preparation program. We focus on hydration, lifting, collagen production and more to help the bride have flawless skin for her big day makeup and photos.

At every stage, it is important to handle your skin with delicacy and skill. Also, avoid tanning and excessive sun exposure are essential for healthy skin. Choosing an organic spray tan offers a safer alternative, providing a beautiful tan without harmful UVA and UVB rays.

Finally, reducing alcohol consumption becomes critical as the wedding approaches. “With increased stress and frequent visits from relatives, cutting back on alcohol is recommended,” notes Vargas. “Alcohol tends to make you look tired and can lead to bloating, so it’s beneficial to limit your consumption.
