When the new year begins, it can feel like we’re all pushing our health and fitness goals from detox teas to new workout routines. We think it’s time to change that and change the focus. When making your New Year’s resolutions this year, try to focus on goals related to self-love and body acceptance. As we move through the different stages of motherhood, our bodies will inevitably change, and it’s important to learn to love ourselves through it all.

8 SOLUTIONS THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH DIET OR WEIGHT LOSS

Below you’ll find 8 body acceptance insights from one of the incredible Rookie Mom Squad moms.

1. Diversify your social media

The media we consume matters. It sends subliminal messages to our self-esteem.

Now is the time to clean up your social media feed. Unfollow accounts that make you feel bad about your body. Follow accounts that inspire you!

Your feed should include women of all different body types.

2. FIND JOY IN FOOD

This is the year you find peace with your food. No more shame or guilt with what you eat. Gentle nutrition aligned with an intuitive nutritional approach.

Here’s the thing, 95% of diets fail and diets tend to be the gateway to developing an eating disorder or eating disorder.

Start understanding intuitive eating with 10 principles of intuitive eating.

3. FIND THE MOVEMENT YOU LOVE

It’s time to make it our daily move to love our bodies and not pursue “results” or distinctions based on appearance. The goal should be mindfulness, by being present in your body. Practice movement that causes joy.

Start by learning how to listen to your body from your inner cues. How long do you want to move? What intensity do you enjoy?

Remember that the goal is not to manage or lose weight. It’s about RESPECTING your body where it is.

4. PRACTICE DAILY THANKSGIVING

Practicing daily gratitude strengthens our focus on positive thinking. Start a daily gratitude journal.

“Studies show that people who kept a gratitude journal exercised more regularly, reported fewer symptoms of physical illness, felt better about their lives as a whole, and were more optimistic. It also showed that people who kept a diary were more likely to make progress towards their goals.” -lifehack.org

5. TRY A NEW STYLE TREND

It’s time to stop hiding behind your wardrobe. Stepping out of our comfort zone can be the perfect way to start embracing the body we have NOW.

It’s important to remember to dress to impress yourself, not other people. If there’s something you’ve been thinking about trying, like a bold red lip, a cool rancher hat, or a sexy body-matching dress, now is the time to DO IT!

Getting creative with your wardrobe helps you find YOUR style. When we feel inspired by our wardrobe, we can appear more confident.

6. STOP BODY CHECKING AND COMPARISON

Nothing good comes from body checking and comparison. It’s time to start actively choosing NOT to engage in these habits. Both body checking and comparison indicate a dissatisfaction with your body, which is almost always inaccurate and self-injurious.

It’s time to get to the root of the issue.

Consider – talking to a therapist, finding alternative coping strategies for your body’s stress, discovering your triggers, finding support.

7. DONATE CLOTHES YOU DON’T WEAR

It’s time to let go of the clothes that don’t serve you.

Our bodies are meant to ebb and flow. Despite what diet culture has taught you to believe, it’s perfectly healthy to fluctuate in your weight. Holding on to clothes that don’t fit “hoping they’ll fit again someday” means you’ll only be happy when your body fits back into that size.

We need to start buying clothes that fit us now. Our lives are happening right now. Not in “our old body” or “could have been the body.”

Donate, trade or sell what doesn’t fit you and buy something good for yourself.

8. MAKE YOURSELF DAILY SETS

When was the last time you gave yourself a compliment? A genuine, loving and well-deserved compliment.

It all starts with our attitude. It’s very simple, we can’t love our body if we don’t show it love.

It might feel awkward to begin with, but fake it till you make it girl. Practice positive affirmations daily. Say them out loud, write them on a mirror, keep them as a lock screen on your phone. Try to say 3 nice things to yourself every day.

My best advice is to talk to yourself like you would talk to your best friend.

Happy New Year Friends
Xx, Shelby
