Its scientific counseling team on the origin of the new pathogens (SAGO), a group of 27 independent, international multi-scientific experts, today published its report on the origin of the Sars-COV-2, the virus responsible for the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sago has promoted understanding of the origin of COVID-19, but as they say in their report, not many of the information required to fully evaluate all cases.

I thank each of the 27 members of Sago for dedicating their time and experience to this very important scientific business for more than three years. As is the case, all cases must remain on the table, including the zoonotic leak and laboratory leak. We continue to appeal to China and any other country that has information about the origin of the Covid -9 to openly share this information in the interests of protecting the world from future pandemics. “

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, General Manager of

In its report, Sago examined the available data on the main cases on the origin of the Covid-19 and concluded that “the weight of the available data … indicates an animal leak … either directly from bats or through an intermediate host”.

Who asked China to share hundreds of genetic sequences from people with COVID-19 early in the pandemic, more detailed information on animals sold in Wuhan markets and information on work and biochemistry conditions in Wuhan workshops. To date, China has not shared this information either with Sago or who.

SAGO has published its initial findings and recommendations in an exhibition on June 9, 2022. Today’s report informs that the evaluation is based on documents and revisions evaluated by peer, as well as available unpublished information and field information, interviews and other reports, including controls, information reports. Sago was convened in various forms 52 times, conducting updates with researchers, academics, journalists and others.

“As the report reports, this is not the sole scientific effort, it is a moral and moral imperative,” said Dr. Marietjie Venter, a team president and a distinguished professor and a president of health research in vaccines and surveillance for emerging viral threats at the University of Witwaters. “Understanding the origin of the Sars-COV-2 and the way in which a pandemic has caused a pandemic needed to prevent the future pandemic, to save lives and the means of living and to reduce global suffering.”

At a special meeting of the World Health Assembly in late 2020, its Member States who adopted a resolution asking who to study the origin of the Sars-COV-2. Consequently, a joint mission between international and Chinese experts traveled to China in January and February 2021 and published their report in March of that year.

In July 2021, Dr. Tedros began the SAGO with two commands: first, to design a global context to explore the origin of emerging and re-emerging pathogens, which he published last year and secondly, to implement this framework for the evaluation of the scientific elements.

The project to understand the origin of Sars-COV-2 remains unfinished. Which welcomes any further information on the origin of the Covid-19 and SAGO remains committed to revising any new information if available.
