Holding your newborn in your arms after a long and adventurous pregnancy journey is an absolute delight for you. Is not;

The moment when your newborn baby is in your arms and covered with a warm blanket is the most beautiful moment of your life. This is the “Golden Hour” of your life. This is the first 60 minutes you will feel uninterrupted skin-to-skin contact and unparalleled joy.

Going deep, “The Golden Hour” is much more than that. So enjoy every moment of it as a beautiful motherhood journey awaits you.

Well, here’s everything you need to know about it.

The benefits of the “Golden Hour” baby after delivery

The “Golden Hour” is a phase of transition. While you’re entering a world of motherhood, your newborn is also adjusting to life outside. How?

They cry a characteristic cry. They try to open their eyes and make eye contact with you. They would try to respond to your voice when they hear it. Along with this they try to make small movements with their arms and legs. That’s not all!

As the baby is snuggled in your arms, the little one has the opportunity to enjoy skin to skin with you.

Your baby will bond better with you

Through skin to skin contact with you, at “The Golden Hour” oxytocin or “love” hormones will be released. Your cute little one will feel loved, pampered and taken care of right now. Plus, your little one’s heart and brain will feel stimulated by the sight of your face, smile and smell.

The newborn develops a sense of security and feels relaxed

Being close to your breast and listening to your voice will help develop a sense of security in your little one. Along with this, your baby will feel safe, completely relaxed and stress-free with you.

The baby’s body temperature will be regulated

During the “Golden Hour”, you will both be covered with a warm blanket. This means that, along with your warm touch, the warm blanket will keep your baby’s body temperature regulated.

Your baby’s risk of becoming infected can be reduced

At this time, the newborn will get good and friendly bacteria from you. This means that the baby will naturally feel protected from the bacterial and viral infections present in the atmosphere.

The newborn’s glucose will be regulated

Up to 14% of full-term healthy babies have less than 2.6 mmol/l in the first three days of life. However, bonding with you along with regular feedings will keep your baby’s blood sugar within range.

It helps in getting your baby to latch on better

During the “Golden Hour” breast milk production increases. Latching also comes to your newborn quite naturally and easily. (Sometimes, hospital staff help make sure the little one has a good latch). Research has further shown that babies at this time will latch better and for longer hours. Regarding your baby’s health, while your baby is clinging to your breast, this colostrum will benefit your baby’s body with nutrition and antibiotics.

Newmom “The Golden Hour” Postpartum Benefits

You can either have a normal birth or an emergency caesarean section, giving birth to your child is a lot of work. Labor and delivery is hard work indeed. The “Golden Hour” is a peaceful and uninterrupted time in your life.

You will breastfeed more than usual

Thanks to the hormonal flux in your body after giving birth, your breast milk production is going to increase. You will still need the help of a specialist to help you breastfeed the newborn. You may not be a perfectionist at first, but learning breastfeeding techniques will take some time. Practice will make you perfect. Continue to feed your baby as much as possible and whenever you feel the signs. The number of times you feed your newborn baby. prolactin hormones will be released. There will also be a good supply of milk in the future.

Your stress levels will decrease

The long journey of pregnancy, labor and delivery has left you exhausted, stressed, anxious and sleep deprived. With your newborn in your arms and constant feeding sessions, you will feel much better and calmer. Your stress levels along with your baby will also start to decrease. Thanks to the release of oxytocin hormones.

You will be able to rest as much as you can

Once your little one has nursed and is off your breast, it’s time for both of you to rest. Taking a nap whenever your baby sleeps can reduce your pregnancy pain in labor. Rest can also reduce your effort as much as possible and tend to get your body back into shape.

Clamping and cutting the cable can wait

During your 9 months of pregnancy, the umbilical cord (along with the umbilical cord blood) was the pathway to pass the much-needed oxygen, blood and nutrients from you to your baby. Earlier the cutting of the umbilical cord was done within seconds after the baby was born. The trend in the medical fraternity has changed. Today, healthcare professionals take about 30 to 60 seconds to clamp and cut the umbilical cord. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), delayed cord clamping and cutting is beneficial as there is a continuous flow of iron-rich blood from the placenta to your newborn baby.

Cord blood collection for banking can fit

You should have planned and discussed giving your baby’s cord blood with your partner, the rest of your family and the cord blood bank during your pregnancy. With this thought in mind, you should take the cord blood collection kit to the hospital. After delivery, the rest of the process – from cord blood collection and processing to banking is easy.

The Golden Hour is the most special moment of your life. Don’t you just enjoy coos?

I hope you too have a healthy start to parenting.
