Is The "man Cold"?

Influenza and cold cases are at all high levels this year. I got the flu two years ago. I never felt more sick in my life. It was awesome.

Kate also took it, and felt close to the door of death at times, but appeared to recover faster than I did and did not moan and sigh while I was. He was in bed for a few days and then returned to work. In the meantime, I was immersed in our bonus room upstairs for a week, alternating between Tylenol and Advil to manage fever and body pain.

Kate always bothers me to be exaggerated for my symptoms every time I get sick.

But, the truth is, I don’t think I exaggerate. I really feel doomed terrible when I go down with something and all I want to do is moan and put in the “sick hole” up for days.

Other couples have noticed a divergence between the way men and women experience illness – with men looking more severe symptoms, while women can dominate through sniffles without losing a stroke. So much that we have called how men treat illness as a “cold” or “flu of man”.

But is man cold actually one thing?

Men become more ill than women?

Many people have noticed that children seem to feel more sick and feel more sick than women do when they get the flu or cold. And there are clinical studies that carry these observations.

According to one study of differences between men and women when they get the flu, Women report more flu symptoms than menwhich means that while a man may simply have fever and pain in the body when ill, a woman may have both of these symptoms plus cough, headache, runny nose etc. But men are Twice as likely to be hospitalized when they get the flusuggesting that the symptoms they experience are more serious.

You saw this pattern with Covid -9 during the pandemic. Around the world, severe Covid cases were primarily between men, with men’s mortality rates 1.6 times higher than female. (It is worth noting that some of this difference may be due to men who generally have poorer health and are more likely to delay the search for medical care when Covid symptoms have deteriorated.)

Research has suggested that men need about 1.5-1.7 days longer to recover from women from women. Yet studies They have shown that men are recovering faster than women than women.

Thus, on the basis of some Studies, men experience more severe symptoms for a longer period of time. The flu man/cold can be something.

But why would there have been sex differences between the way men and women are experiencing illness?

Accuse man cold in testosterone and (low) estrogen

Everything ends in sexual hormones. At least, this is the research.

Testosterone, which men usually have 10-20 times more than women, can be a double sword. While increasing muscle mass and puts hair on your chest, it also suppresses inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6, possibly prolonging the recovery from the flu delaying the purification of the virus.

Testosterone also gives men a larger hypothalamus area, which, among other things, regulates body temperature. Scientists believe that this enlarged hypothalamus could explain why men often report higher fever during infections. And because fever leads some of the unpleasant symptoms of the flu or a cold, such as chills and body pains, the most severe fever mean a more serious illness.

Estrogen also plays a role in immune function. Seems to strengthen it. While men have estrogen, they have nowhere close to the same amount as women. Increased levels of estrogen of women appear to enhance antiviral responses by enhancing interferon-γ production, which slows down the virus to diseases such as influenza. Delaying virus reproduction can get the edge of symptoms in women. What is interesting is that this female hormonal advantage decreases after menopause, when estrogen levels are reduced to women. Postmenopausal women have an immune response that is more closely aligned with men.

Other studies show that women have additives of immunity to men, such as the strongest innate (first line of defense) and adaptive (targeted) immunocompromas. This can help to clear infections faster.

Thus, the high testosterone of men makes them more prone to sick, while increased estrogen in women helps to alleviate the severity of the symptoms and helps them recover faster.

Scientists assume That these hormonal differences between men and women are evolutionary and represent an “reproductive immune compensation”. Females have evolved to have less testosterone but stronger immunity to protect offspring during pregnancy and lactation. Men evolved to have more testosterone, giving them weaker immunity to diseases, but greater strength and lead to hunting and battle duties.

Is man flu in your head exactly?

While many scientists believe that human flu is a real and biological root, others argue that it is psychosomatic. In other words, man’s flu is in your head, man.

A study From the University of Glasgow it suggests that men are less in contact with their biodegradation signals (which help to understand the way the body feels), which could lead to the report that their symptoms are more severe than they really are.

Another study It suggests that men and women objectively treat the same severity and duration of influenza and cold symptoms, but men subjectively evaluate some of them as more serious and longer. The study examined how the sexes experienced the common cold and found that while men and women treated natural symptoms (such as nose and ear problems), men reported symptoms based on emotions, such as changes in mood and psychological discomfort. The researchers in this study concluded that the cold man is exactly on the heads of the dudes.

Why will men experience subjectively more severe cold symptoms? Some researchers believe that because men are prepared to be stoic, cruel and productive, and to dominate things, when they experience a disease, they see it as an opportunity to take a break from these expectations. They enhance the severity of their symptoms to cause sympathy, to take care once and to justify the take -off of the work.

I’m not sure I’m buying this, but that’s the argument.

It may happen that, since women were historically responsible for the share of the lion in childhood care, which creates emergency obligations (children must still be fed and go even when their parents are ill), they are more rooted in women to bounce. Is this a difference that has roots in evolutionary biology, cultural expectations or a mix of both? There are no documented elements that they know.

How to heal the flu/cold

Personally, I think the flu man/cold is one thing – a real biological phenomenon. It was interesting to watch how the experience of my son Gus has changed as it moved from childhood to adolescence. As a boy, he would get sick and be down for a day or two. Now that he is 14 years old, and has testosterone to pass through his veins, he is experiencing illness like me. It feels like rubbish, and is out for more. He just wants to climb the bonus room and be alone to fly and grumble and sigh. Every time one of us gets a bad cold or flu, we just say to the family, “Well, I’m in the sick hole. We say it when I feel better.”

You face the version of the man of cold or influenza as you would do his female counterpart. Do the things your mom told you when you were a kid:

  • Drink a lot of liquids. Water is better, but you have to get a little ginger. It is a miracle of elixir.
  • Keep your light. Sallet soups and crackers are clutches.
  • Avoid caffeine drinks.
  • Get plenty of sleep and rest.
  • It alternates between Tylenol and Advil to manage pain and fever.
  • Clock The price is correct and The young and the restless.

Most colds and influenza periods take about 4-7 days to clean. You could experience prolonged fatigue for up to two weeks.

When you feel the first symptoms of illness, take a home test to see if you have the flu, cold or covid. If the influenza is a recipe for xofluza. Taking it within 48 hours of the first symptoms of your flu can reduce their severity and durability.

While if human flu is a real normal thing or just in the heads of the children is up for discussion, doctors all agree that we should not characterize men as whiny when they get sick because they could delay men to take the care they need to improve, which could be improved. Be sure to see a doctor if:

  • Your fever reaches 104 degrees Fahrenheit or higher or is over 100 for over three days.
  • You have difficulty breathing or chest pain.
  • Your symptoms get worse after an initial improvement.
  • Your symptoms last more than three weeks without improvement.

Trying to harden a disease and continue your normal routine is not wise. It will simply extend the disease and delay your recovery. By keeping your illness to quote for a longer period of time, you will really lose more productivity in the long run than just taking completely time and letting yourself cure. It is in your interest, and in the interests of your family, who wants to see you bounce as quickly as possible, to hit your rest and restoration hard. At the same time, your household can hurt without your help, so don’t fly unnecessarily and once you are ready, return to the saddle.
