Eminence Organics has come a long way since our humble beginnings in Hungary. Since 1958, our mission to improve your well-being naturally through great products and great service has taken us from the Hungarian countryside to Vancouver, Canada and beyond. Today, we have roots in Hungary at Eminence Certified Organic Farm, a growing team at our Vancouver headquarters and thousands of spa partners who carry our results-driven organic products around the world. Here is a brief look at our incredible journey.
From Hungary with love
Eminence Organic Skin Care began years ago with the organic ingredients and natural skin care techniques used for generations by the Koronczay family estheticians. However, the defining experience it led to Boldijarre and Attila Koronczay in the skin care industry was unlikely. At the age of four, Boldijarre was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of leukemia and given a 0.1% chance of survival. His mother and grandmother went organic nutrition to help his body heal. Incredibly, Boldijarre made a full recovery and has been the brothers’ goal ever since to enhance people’s well-being through organic nutrition and skin care.
Moving to Vancouver, Canada
Years after his recovery, Boldijarre followed in the footsteps of the Koronczay family and became a trained beautician with a passion for natural and organic ingredients. In 1996, aiming to bring organic skin care to the world, he and Attila set their sights on Vancouver, Canada. Boldijarre says, “We chose Vancouver in particular because of the healthy lifestyle the city could offer, as well as [it being] one of the greenest cities in North America… We were also looking for a place that has a mild climate year-round because of the natural and heat-sensitive products.”
At first, the Koronczay brothers worked minimum wage jobs and renovated apartments in exchange for rent. Attila recalls: “We faced years of rejection while the market was not ready to understand the benefits of organic. Even the spa industry was not interested in organic products… My brother and I shared a sofa bed for almost a decade. But, we shared the same dream and the same dedication to our ideas and to each other.”
A global brand
It was nine years before Eminence Organics took off in North America. The company started small, with Boldijarre working at a local spa and sharing the skin care line with his private clients. Word of the organic facials and Hungarian-style massage techniques spread quickly and she soon had a long waiting list. With a background in engineering and logistics, Attila stepped in to oversee business operations, bringing Eminence Organics products from Hungary to North America.
Today, Boldijarre is an icon of the spa industry with an unparalleled reputation as a Master Esthetician, developing skin care products that have attracted A-list clients including Katherine Heigl, Laura Dern and Kristen Bell. Attila continues to run the day-to-day operations of the business, overseeing agricultural production, product development and manufacturing in Hungary.
Our head office is located in Vancouver, but we maintain close ties to our Hungarian roots. At Eminence, people often ask: “Is Eminence really made in Hungary?” All of our products, in fact, are made in Hungary, where most are manufactured and then shipped to Canada for hand pouring. Although a variety of our natural, organic and Biodynamic® ingredients are sourced worldwide, most are still grown in Hungary.
Ingredients for success
At Eminence Organics, we’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come. The secret to success? Boldijarre says Dermascope: “Success is working all the time and making it look easy. Only through decades of hard work, late nights, sacrifices, uphill battles and hundreds of miles on the road every year have they made Eminence the global brand it is today.”
