I got this message next week and I felt it. Horrifying. Relevant.
‘… The biggest challenge right now is that I am a full working mother of two young boys and I am so horrifying exhausted.
I’m on a hamster wheel of life right now, giving myself to everyone and everything around me.
It’s not just that it’s hard to find the time to work … It’s hard to find the energy.
It is also difficult to create a routine in which I can stick, one I can do without thinking, as all the variables in my life. ”
Young children are a particularly difficult time. There is a tone of volatility in your routine, the high demand for your time and attention, and not much energy for spare parts.
Whether you are a parent, caregiver, or just go through an incredibly busy age of life, trying to add a fitness routine over everything else can feel like the funny Jim Gaffigan: “Do you know how it is like having five kids? Imagine you drown and then someone delivers you a baby.”
We hear this feeling all the time with customers in the coaching program.
So today, I want to guide you exactly how I help them browse this intense period, while still finding time to work for their health and ability in ways they feel viable for them.
And continuing the experiment “Matt stands in front of a white boat and captures a video, I have an accompanying video with notes so you can assimilate this in any form it works best for you. (The bonus shows anyone who recognizes where my t -shirt comes from!;
And if you are someone who is struggling to find consistency with your workouts, answer this email! I would love to see how I can help. 💪
The basic challenges
If you tell me you are a parent then I can predict a few things right away:
- Very variable program
- High demands in time and attention
- Lack of predictable routine.
- (Periods) low -energy
I still remember talking to Mike (host of Podcast Chasing Scratch) And how he continued to say, “This week is crazy, but next week, things will eventually return to normal.”
After several weeks of it, I stopped him and said something according to: “I think the unpredictable is the only predictable thing.”
Our mantra was done “there is no normal“And that was the key to his success to get 148 workouts so far this year (and counting!)
Strategies
Call mode
If we know every day it is very variable, then our plan must take into account.
Start by creating a short and simple body weight training that you can do in 5-15 minutes. (Like doing 1 round of this workout.) It becomes a key puzzle piece that you can fit on a crazy day.
When I worked on the Force Fitness, I remember coming after a long night with the kids, I felt completely dead in the world. These days, My boss And I would see each other and I would say: “Turkish and Carried by farmer; “Two moves to upload us and move for a few minutes, and then redeem for the day.
Accumulation
The workouts do not need to happen at the same time. You can break up training in mini compositions during the day or even the week!
The most important factor is to do the job, not in the timetable. 💪
This is precisely the strategy I use with new parents. We write a list of exercises and a target number of repetitions to do all week. Then they push them as much as they can. If you want an example of what it looks like, shoot me and email and be happy to share some!
My time
Sometimes, it is really important to try to chart your time on your schedule to focus only on you. This may mean asking for help from a partner or making some difficult decisions about compromises. It is not always possible, but it is worth considering.
We did this with my client Michelle. It had a hard time to fit the workouts, so we walked through some transactions it could do. She asked her partner for support and was able to chart 20 minutes after work. It will be parked out and do a workout in the garage. It was not “home” until it passed through the garage door.
I go, go
If you can’t beat them, unite them! Invite the child to join with you.
Change your focus to more skills -based training or playing that may be more attractive to them. Instead of optimizing for “results”, optimize fun and connection.
This is the choice that is very meaningful in my life. Part of me Great because It is associated with others and modeling healthy behaviors for my own children. While I still like to work on my own, finding more ways to get involved in my family has made the journey even more rewarding. ❤*

And there you have it! If you were my client I will walk you through these similar steps
- We had deleted your current program and the very real challenges.
- We would understand which strategy fits best for you.
- Then I will write workouts and give accountability to get the thought out of your plate and help you stay on track. 💪
