As the crisp fall air sets in and Halloween is here, it’s the perfect time to reflect on how we move through life and fitness. Whether you’re the type to sprint through your workouts or take your time at a slow, deliberate pace, what really matters is moving at your own pace. After all, no body moves the same way and there is no one size fits all training plan.

What moves you?

What makes you feel alive, full and complete? Is it the energy boost you get after crashing a workout, or is it the satisfaction of checking off a to-do list? No matter what drives you, it’s important to adopt your own pace, whether that means shopping, taking a walk around the neighborhood, or hitting the gym. Some people thrive on getting things done quickly, while others find fulfillment at a slower, more careful pace.

Think of it this way:

  • Dealing with tasks: Maybe you’re the type who spends hours finishing up yard work, while your boyfriend would rather fly around errands like a speed machine.
  • Walk: Some people enjoy a slow ride while enjoying every step, while others are on a mission and if you don’t step aside, they will run over the people in front of them.
  • Driving: We’ve all been there, stuck behind the slowpoke in front of us who is probably on the phone or just not paying attention. You try to pass, but you don’t find yourself being cut off by a speedster, racing through traffic.

If you find yourself rolling through various workouts, note that you are exposed to a wide range of exercises at different paces and difficulties. Move at a pace that suits you you is the key to staying motivated and seeing results. What might feel fast to one person might feel slow to another and vice versa…and that’s totally okay! The thing is, there is no right or wrong way to move, just move! The key is to listen to your body and tune in to your own goals.

Set your pace, raise the bar

As a fitness professional with over 30 years of experience, I can tell you one thing: the best workouts are the ones that challenge you but don’t break you. By knowing your limits, you can safely push them, and that’s where the magic happens. It’s important to listen to your body, recognize when it’s time to push harder and when it’s time to cut back.

If you are working out on your own, there is a lot of great information and training plans to follow. While they may offer great suggestions, it’s important to ensure they are appropriate for your fitness level and that you perform them correctly to get the best results.

So remember that workouts should have flexibility, freedom to adapt and room for progress or regression. Trying to keep up with someone else’s pace can leave you feeling frustrated, disappointed, or even injured. So always go back to what works for you because that’s where the real progress happens and you can raise the bar!

Move at your own wicked pace!

Halloween is the perfect time to remind yourself to move at your own pace. In honor of the scary season, why not fuel your workouts with a badass playlist that will motivate you to break a sweat? Whether you’re sweating it out in your Total Gym or going for a fall run, these elementally cool tunes will help you find your own unique rhythm.

Wicked Halloween Playlist

I’ve created a Spotify playlist just for you and the scary season, called the “Wicked List.” Check out the playlist below or listen directly from Spotify: BAD LIST

Movement with purpose

At the end of the day, it’s not about how fast or slow you move, it’s about feeling empowered and accomplished. Learning to listen to your body and move at the right pace youyou will find joy in every movement, every workout and every task you undertake.

As we celebrate Spooky SZN, enjoy the freedom to move in a way that suits you. Let the music fuel your workout and remember—there’s no “right” way to move, only the way that works for you.

Happy Halloween and keep evil! 🎃
