Highlights from interviews 16-20 about chronic illness, wholeness in life, what it means to be lean inside, and more
A few years ago, I hosted a podcast called, Health issues. It was a show for women who wanted to improve their mental and physical health.
Each week, I featured a new expert. These experts provided insight into their specific area of expertise.
Today, I’m sharing highlights from interviews 16–20:
- Wholeness in Life and Business with Angel Barrino
- Live happily despite chronic illness with Kimberly Rae
- Create the Health You LOVE with Casey Sollock
- What it means to be Thin Within with Heidi Bylsma
- Four Little-Known Secrets That Stand Between You and Destiny with Linda Williams
Wholeness in Life and Business with Angel Barrino
Angel is an author, speaker, coach and owner of several businesses under his parent company Angel B. Inspired, which are dedicated to helping people in life and business.
She discussed ways women can overcome challenges and self-sabotaging behaviors. He also explained the GROW acronym:
Growth — your growth in life, your growth in business, your growth in anything you do.
It’s yours Rtruth, what is your reality right now, even though your reality may be a challenge, you don’t have to stay in that reality. You have options.
The O in GROW stands for THEseats. You have choices in your life. You don’t have to stick with the things you would normally do. You don’t have to go along with everything other people want you to do. You have options.
Yours Will, your personal will — sometimes many people get caught up in thinking that they are subject to what life gives them. And they don’t have to stay that way. They can change their will, they can change their choices. They can make better choices for their lives.
Live happily despite chronic illness with Kimberly Rae
Kimberly Rae is an Amazon bestselling author living with Addison’s disease, she talks about health from the “other side” in her Sick & Tired series, including Laughter for the sick and tired and Why doesn’t God fix it?
Kimberly discussed how life is different for a chronically unhealthy person than for someone who is healthy. He also explained a way for people to pray for those they love and live with illness.
Oh God bless those who pray for those living with chronic illnesses. It’s interesting to me — what a good thing to ask — because you’re always going to pray that they get better. But I would say that if you know someone with a chronic illness, the most important things to pray for would be for their spiritual and emotional health even more than their physical health.
When this is forever and you think, okay, God, please heal me, but I’m sure he’s not going to, that’s my cross to bear. He said, My grace is enough that we can accept sometimes. But the emotional strain that comes with that, you have to explain to people why you can’t come and they say, “This is an exception. You can’t do this’ or ‘It’s all in your head’ or ‘Maybe you should just…’ or ‘Try this oil’ or whatever will solve your problems.
The emotional strain of constantly trying to be in shape when people want you to be better. And then the spiritual battles. You know when you’re awake, you haven’t slept enough, and the devil comes at you with all these thoughts? I would say this is the hardest part of being chronically ill. the way it affects your mind and heart even more than your body. So we need prayer for endurance and strength and that we will accept that His grace is sufficient.
Create the Health You LOVE with Casey Sollock
Casey Solock was my next guest. Casey is a speaker, author and physical health coach.
Casey talked about how she believed stress was causing most of America’s health problems. He explained the acronym CRAVE:
C to create a new mindset and new beliefs around health.
R is reconnecting with your body.
A is addition to good things.
V is to visualize yourself as the healthiest version of yourself every day.
E is to evaluate your main food and your purpose.
What it means to be Thin Within with Heidi Bylsma
Heidi Bylsma is a member of Thin Within Ministry. She has lost 100 pounds and has continued to maintain a healthy size.
Heidi explained the Thin Within approach and how it takes into account the fact that our Creator God has made us awesomely and wonderfully. It has given us signals for all kinds of things in our bodies – thirst, sickness and pain, fatigue as well as signals for hunger and satisfaction.
So if we follow these signals, just like we do when we’re tired, we sleep, when we need to go to the bathroom, we go. If we eat when we are hungry and stop when we are no longer hungry, we will experience freedom in this area that we may not have had before.
It helps if we pray a lot because we can deceive ourselves, “I must be hungry.” Sometimes we are not when we think we are.
We hunger in our hearts for something. And through studying the Bible, we discover that there are many truths that God wants to speak about us, which will replace some of the lies that made me believe things that make me overeat when I don’t need to, when I shouldn’t, when I have no need for natural food.
And then through exercise, I can please my God by moving the body He made and gave me as a steward of a temple of His Spirit. Hunger and satiety signals are absolutely the most wonderful way to eat healthy.
Four Little-Known Secrets That Stand Between You and Destiny with Linda Williams
Linda Williams, Founder and CEO of Whose Apple Empowerment Center, is an author, life and relationship coach, trained psychotherapist, educator and motivational speaker.
Linda talked about the four secrets that stand between you and fate:
- Destiny cannot deny you, but you can deny destiny
- The “good enough for God” list needs to come out
- Have a list of honest trusted others in your life
- Trust the healing process.
This concludes the highlights of Part IV of interviews with health experts. Although the podcast is no longer available, if you would like a copy of any of the full transcripts of the interview, please email me.
This was an excerpt from the Health Matters Podcast, believing that prayer and Bible study are to the spirit what exercise and healthy eating are to the body.
Blessings on your journey to health.
