While there are several options to help treat the symptoms of depression, they have come with different success on a case -by -case basis. And although the latest possible inclusion in your daily routine has shown signs of help depression, it is not a replacement for SSRI inhibitors (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) or SNRI (serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors).

However, as Dr. Peter AttiaA doctor, writer and researcher specializing in longevity medicine, details, studies have shown that the effects of creatine have a positive impact on depression management. Attia, hosting The drive podcast In which he speaks with various experts and also describes unique health approaches, he offered information on the effects of creatine In a recent newsletter.

Details on the impact of creatine on the help of depression

Although creatine has long been regarded as a tool for metabolism of muscle energy, Attia explains that “it plays a critical role in maintaining brain energy homeostasis”.

“It serves both as an energy regulatory-it deals with cellular energy in the form of high energy chemical bonds as phosphocreatine-as well as an energy bus, carrying energy produced by mitochondria in high-demand areas, such as synapses,” Attia explains.

“With the ability of creatine to cross the blood -brain barrier, increases in brain creatine reserves could theoretically improve brain bioacation and act synergistically with monoamine -based treatments (such as SSRIs),” continues. “… Indeed, the growing elements show that the combination of creatine with SSRIs can improve the effects of treatment.”

Attia describes detailed studies, one in which a group of 100 participants with clinical diagnoses of depression were divided into two groups. Participants consist of an equal number of men and women and characterized an average age of 30.4,

Half of the group received cognitive behavioral therapy and five grams a day a day, while the other half received cognitive behavioral therapy and placebo for eight weeks.

Attia described below how the results were evaluated:

“… The main result-the improvement of the severity of the symptoms-has been evaluated by the patient’s health questionnaire (PHQ-9), a standard method for evaluating depression symptoms.

Results of letters studies and impact on the help of depression

There were many notable yields from this particular study highlighted by Attia, including the fact that both groups were improved from the starting price at the point of eight weeks. However, Attia explained the drastic improvements presented by those who received five grams of creatine a day.

“The results showed that both groups have improved significantly in the severity of the symptoms from the initial price at the time of 8 weeks,” Attia said. “However, the creatine group showed statistically significantly greater improvements, with scores to reduce an additional 5.12 points compared to placebo (95% CI: -7.20 to -3.52).”

In short, the team that also added creatine to their daily routine moved from the range of “moderately serious depression” to “mild depression”, a significant improvement. Attia also stresses that 12 participants in the Creatine Group achieved recession, while five from the placebo group did.

“Specifically, the CBT-Creatine group was transferred from moderately severe depression (17.8 ± 6.1) to mild depression (5.8 ± 4.8), while the CBT-Placebo group remained in the medium range (shifting from 17.6 ± 6.4 to 11.9 ± 6.6)."

Attia also noted that there was a high rate of abandonment on both sides of this study, about 40 % in each group, which could slightly affect yields. However, although only one study, it highlights several other aspects/studies that have marked a positive impact on mental health and helping with depression when taking SSRIs together.

The positive yields of creatine have become a common topic of conversation in recent years, making this detailed distribution from Attia even more interesting.
