Its effects Large -scale study They suggest that a HPV vaccine can be enough to protect young people from HPV and related issues such as cervical cancer. THE The results were presented At a meeting of the American Cancer Society and are discussed by the Advisory Committee on ACIP practices (ACIP).

When the HPV vaccine was first introduced in 2006, the expert believed that it took three doses to obtain the benefits of immunity. The young men who took the foreground would receive a second dose a month later and a third shot six months after that. This program was difficult for some young people and their parents to keep up and some people did not receive all three recommended doses.

In the last twenty years there have been many research suggesting that three shots were not necessary. First research showed that two shots provided a similar level of protection, especially to younger people who are known to have stronger immune reactions. In 2016, Acip changed its recommendations and began to say that anyone who got his first shot before the age of 15 needed two shots. This new study can lead to another change in vaccination timetable.

HPV Vaccine Study – a shot compared to two

The Escuddo test was recorded over 20,000 girls aged 12-15 in Costa Rica starting in 2017. The girls were accidentally assigned to one of the four groups. The first group took a dose of Cervarix, a vaccine that protects against the two types of HPV that is more likely to cause cervical cancer. The second group took two doses of Cervarix. (Cervarix is no longer available in the United States, but still used in other countries.) The third group took a dose of Gardasil 9, which protects against 9 HPV executives who are more likely to cause genital cancer or warts. The fourth group took two doses of Gardasil.

Young women were followed every six months. They were tested for infection by the cervical HPV. They were also given blood tests to see if they had produced antibodies to the HPV types in the vaccine. The researchers did not find significant differences for any of these factors between those who took one shot and those who received two from the vaccine.

In addition to this test subject, the researchers enrolled a group of non-vaccinated women aged 16-22 from the same geographical areas. These women attended three six -month study visits to determine their HPV DNA status. For moral reasons, they were offered HPV vaccination at a time. The researchers compared these test results in all study groups to get a sense of how many possible HPV cases were avoided due to vaccines. They were also examined whether this was different in people who received one or two doses of their vaccine. It wasn’t.

The researchers concluded that for both vaccines, one dose was as good as two. This study confirms the findings of similar studies in other parts of the world. A 2016 study by India, for example, found that a dose of Gardasil’s previous version provided adequate protection. A similar randomized test by Kenya found that a dose of Gardasil 9 or Cervarix was 98% effective in preventing HPV infection 16/18 to three years after vaccination.

What could a change in a shot mean

Transition to a single dose of HPV vaccine could help increase the vaccine intake by eliminating some of the obstacles (such as transport and time away from work) that prevent some people from returning to a healthcare provider for additional doses. It will also make it easier and more affordable efforts to vaccinate large -scale, especially in low -resource countries.

THE ACIP discussed one dose of HPV vaccine During her last meeting in April and may decide to change her recommendations when she meets again in June. This can be complicated, however, from the feeling of vaccination in the Department of Health and Human Services and funding at CDC.
