Feeling overwhelmed by the constant buzz about 2025 grooming trends? At Apex Skin, we focus on what really works—simple, science-backed skin care tips to help you achieve healthier, clearer, brighter skin. Our dermatologists can guide you toward sustainable habits and effective treatments tailored to your needs—without the noise of camera filters or influencer trends. We know what your skin really needs.

So, let’s leave social media for a moment and consider what skin care really within. Your skin is your body’s largest organ. It is part of your immune system. Your skin is healthier when you are healthier. You hectare beautiful when you’re comfortable and confident in your own skin, no matter what Instagram says. The bottom line is that skin care is about the skin health.

So instead of adopting a long and complicated skincare routine for the New Year or chasing impossible social media goals that aren’t realistic anyway (why—filters!), Apex Skin recommends simple, realistic skin care routines and habits that nourish and rejuvenate your skin, along with help for your unique skin conditions that could benefit from personalized care and personalized dermatology treatments.

“I would start by seeing a dermatologist to assess your skin type and determine the optimal treatment for you and your skin goals,” says Oliver. “We offer many treatments and services here at Apex Skin that can rejuvenate your appearance—from prescription topical medications to aesthetic services such as facials, chemical peels, microneedling, laser treatmentsfiller, Botoxand much more!”

While everyone has different skin care needs, there are some general critical tips that Oliver wants everyone to consider, as these tips affect anyone with skin of any age:

“The more products you use, the more ingredients you put on your skin,” says Oliver. And more ingredients—especially those that haven’t been tested by a dermatologist—can lead to irritation and unwanted effects.

“Diet plays a huge role in skin health!” Oliver says. “Focus on drinking plenty of water and eating a nutritious, well-balanced diet! If you’re having trouble getting the right nutrients in your regular diet, you should talk to your healthcare provider about supplementing with things like vitamin D, collagen, and omega-3 fatty acids.”

The gut and skin are part of your immune system, and the gut microbiome and nutrition your body absorbs from the foods you eat directly affect everything from wound healing and eczema to psoriasis, acneand how skin ages. While changing everything you eat isn’t realistic as a New Year’s resolution (we’ve all tried it), we recommend making small, sustainable changes like adding probiotic foods and complex carbohydrates high in fiber.

Doing what you can reduce your stress levels it will help your skin, your mental health and your overall health. Even a 5 minute break during a busy day can help!

“Physical and emotional stress it can play an important role in conditions such as acne, rosacea and psoriasis,” explains Oliver. “Stress can cause the release of a hormone called cortisol. Cortisol can cause an increase in the skin’s oil production, which can clog pores and cause pimples. It can also damage the skin barrier, making your skin more vulnerable and prone to irritation and dryness. Prolonged exposure to cortisol can also lead to chronic inflammation in the body, which can worsen skin conditions such as rosacea, eczema and psoriasis.”

Make a New Year’s resolution to remove myths and misconceptions from your skincare routine again this year so you can focus on healthy skin habits without things that can derail them. Oliver lists three problems she commonly encounters with skincare misconceptions:

“Take it one step at a time and trust the process,” Oliver urges. If you have never seen a dermatologist for your needs, schedule an appointment for a personalized, practical, simple skincare routine that focuses on healthy skin habits for life. We can often get you to one of our locations the same day, so give it a try, even if you have a crazy schedule.

Another common problem we see is that people don’t adapt their skin care routines to their current needs. So we have some helpful tips based on general ages and common skin conditions that people in those ages may experience.

During your early adulthood, acne may still be a problem. And once you hit your 30s, you may start to see some fine lines and issues from previous sun damage, so:

Regular checkups with your dermatologist, even at this young age, can also help you monitor skin conditions and treatments that can prolong your youthful glow.

As we age, our skin continues to change as collagen and elastin production slows and hormonal changes lead to fine lines, dryness and loss of elasticity. But all is not lost if you have a dermatologist in your corner.

Be sure to keep a simple skincare routine with dermatologist-recommended products and in-office treatments:

“It’s especially important for people age 60 and older to schedule regular skin checks because the risk of developing skin cancer increases significantly with age, and early detection can be critical to successful treatment,” says Oliver. One in five Americans will develop some sort of skin cancer by age 70, so this is no time to slack off on skin care. Important skin care routines at this age include:

Everyone should have one annual full body checkupbut if you see something alarming between these annual appointments, schedule a same day appointment for SPOT check. “Patients should monitor and contact their dermatologist if they notice any new growths or areas that ulcerate, itch, bleed, or do not heal,” says Oliver. “Patients should also do monthly self-exams to monitor moles ABCDE of Melanomashe urges.

Whether you’re dealing with teenage acne or preventing age-related changes, a dermatologist can guide you toward the best treatments for your unique needs.

This year, take a bold step by scheduling an appointment with P.A Sheridan Oliver in ours Canton location or if that location is not ideal, to one of our others 13 offices in Northeast Ohio to receive personalized care and recommendations for you! We even have same day appointments available.

“Dermatologists are trained to evaluate different skin types and conditions to determine a skin care regimen tailored to each individual and their skin goals,” says Oliver. “Your dermatologist understands which products are scientifically proven to nourish, revitalize and protect your skin.”

See the difference personalized care can make by checking out the inspiring before and after transformations of Apex Skin patients who started their skin care journey with us.
