Hear me out: sex drives are confusing. But if yours is feeling low right now, don’t panic.

You are not broken and you are definitely not alone. You’re probably going through something completely normal, but if you want to renew your sex drive, it’s worth taking a step back and looking whole life – not just your sex life.

Why is my sex drive low?

There are many factors that reduce libido. Here are 4 of the most common:

  • Boredom. Are you in a long-term relationship? Because when it comes to sex, high boredom = low libido. Our love brain craves novelty and variety, but when we get used to the same-sex scenario over and over again, we start to check out. We go through the motions of sex, doing it on autopilot.
  • hormones. Hormone levels fluctuate as we age, and this applies to all genders. But hormone levels also fluctuate during a menstrual cycle, even during the day. This affects our mood, our blood flow, and even the sensitivity of our genitals. This can affect the sex drive to a great extent.
  • Thieves of pleasure. I go into them in depth Smart sexbut the top 3 are: stress, trauma, shame (STS for short).
    • Stress it plays a big role in your adrenal glands and cortisol levels, which interfere with your body’s production and circulation of feel-good chemicals like endorphins, serotonin, and oxytocin. These are the chemicals associated with sexual pleasure and orgasm, but if stress blocks them, you naturally have a hard time getting turned on.
    • Wound it triggers a protective response in the body – even when we don’t necessarily do it need this protection – bypassing the relaxation required for sexual ease.
    • Shame it stops your sexuality from jumping. If deep down you feel shame because you just want pleasure, your love mind can’t fully tune in to sex itself. This applies to partner play and masturbation.
  • LIFESTYLE. Some drugs, such as SSRIs, are notorious for sex drive. In addition, lack of physical exercise, poor diet, poor sleep, excessive alcohol consumption and smoking are factors that kill sex drive over time. They inhibit blood flow and hormone levels, taxing your body in ways that aren’t always immediately apparent. Until, that is, your libido hits the floor.

If any of this sounds familiar, I have good news for you. All of this can be fixed! But it takes time and persistence to heal these, rather than an overnight fix. The other good news, though, is that treatments aren’t just therapeutic – they’re often sexy, exploratory and fun. Here are my favorite methods.

4 Ways to Boost Low Sex Drive

1. Masturbate

Whether you’re single or partnered, a regular masturbation practice cures low sex drive so much many ways. It gets your chemicals flowing again (especially after orgasm), reminding you that you deserve touch, relaxation and pleasure. We are all worthy of these things. But when we are private, we can more easily take our time, explore the body, reflect on fantasies, and breathe deeply. These are all benefits that heal taxed adrenals and create new pathways to pleasure.

Try it: plusOne, a sex toy company with very affordable products. I understand that when you’re in a sex mess, you’re not always motivated to invest in something expensive. Okay. This company makes toys (for all genitalia!) that are easier on the wallet. Look for a product that offers something new to your existing masturbation routine, whether it’s a atmosphere of private enjoyment or one external prostate massage. Sometimes, all it takes is a little solo experimentation to get you excited about sex again.

2. Supplements and Nutrition

It is a well-documented fact that some foods and drinks support sex drive, while others do not. take broccoli, which helps blood circulation. This is vital for erections and genital sensitivity! Meanwhile, alcohol is a depressant, blocking your blood flow and arousal. If you’re in the habit of drinking to relax – or drinking to reduce penile sensitivity so you can last longer – you might want to see how it affects your erectile health. It’s one of the many reasons I keep recommending it FirmTech’s Tech Ring*, which you wear at night. It uses built-in sensors to monitor the stability and duration of all your erections while you sleep, then sends information to an app where you can see how you’re doing and make health changes to improve erections.

In addition to modifying your diet, you can also supplement to boost your sex drive. If you’ve always heard, for example, that menopause kills your sex life for good – think again. You can absolutely getSupplements that help alleviate the worst symptoms of menopause while supporting a healthy sex drive.

Try it: Solaray** and their line her life STAGES, designed specifically to provide women with solutions to common concerns at every stage of the hormonal journey. STAGES menopause supplement contains black cohosh, green tea, clinically studied saffron and more to help support mood, sleep, hot flashes and other symptoms that can affect sex drive.* They also have a STAGES Libido t formulaThe cap can be taken in conjunction with your menopause product to help keep the spark going.*

3. Yes No Maybe List

If you were shaking your head about low libido = high boredom, check out my Yes No Maybe list. As a comprehensive list of sex ideas, ranging from mild (decided) to edgy (anal), it’s a way to gamify sex between you and your partner. Just fill it out separately, compare the results and see which sex acts you’d like to explore together.

Try it: By downloading it here.

4. See the doctor

If all else fails, it never hurts to go to your care provider and get things checked out. A hormone panel, a change in your SSRIs, even more subtle things like high cholesterol – all will help educate you about your body and what contributes to low sex drive.

Try: Making an appointment with a care provider who is ready to talk openly and honestly about your sexual health. This could be a specialist, such as an OB-GYN or urologist, or it could also be a general practitioner who may order blood tests.

These steps give you a starting point for boosting low sex drive, and you may need to experiment with a few. Stick with it! Over time, you’ll get a much better sense of what you need to get it roaring back. The future orgasms are worth it.
