Maintaining a healthy weight is one of the best habits I should have, in my opinion. Weight loss is actually quite easy, but it keeps it away that is difficult for most people (including me at one point). But I have lost over 1.5 stones in a few years and most of them were in the first 12 months. I had a hard time trying to lose weight for years. You can read about healthy weight loss habits I have kept here if you want to talk about the smaller things that helped me maintain weight loss.
But the reason I write this post today is because I just weigh this morning and saw the same old number appearing exactly as months and months. This number is 190 kg. But for a long time, that number was 212 – 214 pounds and I didn’t realize how overweight I was. Sure, I wasn’t huge, but I was much bigger than I realized. This is obvious now when I look back on the photos of myself on this higher weight.
That 212 pounds ranged slightly but was always about 212. It was as if I could never move the needle enough, no matter what I tried. I was very good at losing some weight, but then I just ate only one ice cream, I would put a bunch of weight (or at least that was what he felt at that time.)
And that 190 pounds rise by 1 or 2 kg from time to time and even decreases to 189 pounds in the strange occasion, but always goes back to 190 pounds. Nondescript. Even if I eat a lot in a week, my weight tries to return to 190.
So what’s going on?
The theory of weight of the setting point
There is a theory around this frustrating experience called ”Regulation theory“. It has never been proven (and I’m not sure you would prove it), but it is a very popular theory nevertheless. The idea is that your weight is set by your genetics and so if you eat less to try and lose weight, your metabolism will slow down to offset. Once you start returning to your old eating habits (which most people do earlier than later) you will put all this weight losing back and then some.
In fact, your body does not want to lose weight. Is designed to hang on these calories. And many experts believe that this is a matter of real. It makes sense … Is your eye and hair color placed by your genes or how tall are you because they won’t control your weight?
Your body weight adjustment point makes things difficult
I believe that the weight theory of the point based on my own journey and what I have seen on the scales in the last 10 years. However, there is a problem with this theory or rather, what this theory causes …
And that is confusion. Most people know this theory and believe they are Why can’t they lose weight no matter what they try.
From my experience, your body really tries to stay the same and is stubborn as hell, so stubborn in reality that you can give up very easily and say, “This is the only weight to be.”
But I think your weight is just like anything else.
- If you do not stretch your hips they will become rigid over time and you could say “I only get older”.
- If you are not running, you will be less appropriate and you think you are simply “not a suitable person”.
- If you are not sleeping well for a long time, you will get sick and think, “I just get sick all the time because I’m unlucky.”
Your body adapts to your habits and your environment. So I’m not sure if your genes adjust your weight. This was not my case. In fact, I think you just stay a certain weight for quite some time and Change your habits for quite some timeYour body reads in this weight to be “the new normal”.
How do I reset the weight of my point
As mentioned, the weight of my spot needed a little time and test and wrong, but I certainly did it. Here are the main things that I think has helped me change them.
Switch from lifestyle change
The first obstacle is always spiritual. Most people think they must “go to a diet” to change their specified weight – starving the body so that it has to eat itself. But this is a stupid outdated mentality. The real thing you should do is Change your lifestyle for the rest of your lifeYes, for the rest of your life. That is why so many people return to their old ways. The old ways are comfortable. Changing yourself is uncomfortable, at least in the beginning.
You can really change your specified weight range, but it will only happen if you are consistent with your habits over time, for at least 3 months based on what I have experienced.
Therefore, treat your weight change as a lifestyle switch and not as a short -term diet.
Turned off the poison for real food
The biggest thing that I think has helped me restore my weight to the point was to hit whatever it worked or has been treated extremely. And to be honest, this was a great learning curve. This is due to the fact that most of the foods that are readily available in the food store are prepaid trash with bazillion ingredients. It is a great revelation and it is a kind of scary to realize that 90% of food is just there to win, not to nourish you.
But it is also empowerment. When I changed my eating habits, I felt a real sense of control of my own health, knowing that I did not eat additional rubbish ingredients. I turned to a whole food diet consisting of meat, dairy, vegetables and fruits, with nuts and black chocolate as a treatment.
Doing this completely changed my life.
Taught me so many things about diet and the human body really should work well, Not what does a human body want. And it also gave me a higher sense of compassion not only for myself but for the wider human species. It is not strange that we are getting overweight and sick – we are surrounded by the most delicious foods ever made and it is difficult to resist. You can’t blame people. It’s not always for the will.
What is at least from my experience is education. When you learn what the real food is and what it is not, it is easier to make a change.
Think about it as a fun experiment at first. How much weight can you really lose in a whole natural food diet? How much more energy will you have? How much better sleep will you enjoy?
Treat the cutting of processed foods as a test to see if you can really feel amazing after a few weeks.
Learned to cook
Eating a diet of the whole food does not mean that you can no longer enjoy food. At least in my case, learning how awful the most “food -like substances” you find in my store gave me more appreciation for food and cooking. If you want to change your weight, in the long run, you need to learn to cook and it is really not so difficult at all.
I think western culture has been this way, making fast food look like a “easiest choice” for “people on the go”.
But how are you really? In fact you don’t have time to cook in the evenings? What on Earth do you do with your 24 hours?
Every man and his dog have time to cook in 24 hours, I don’t care who you are. All you need is a simple meat, vegetables and rice/pasta. And it doesn’t have to be expensive because you can use onions, garlic, rice and broccoli for days in a row and make 3 different meals, for example.
The shift to Asia for dinner ideas was another player for the game when I was trying to lose weight. Asian foods are some of the healthiest And also the most delicious and it is not difficult to cook. You just need meat (many times) and a bunch of vegetables.
Learning to use herbs and spices makes your diet all the food just as tasty as processed trash and is my secret weapon every time I cook.
Keep learning to cook with individual objects individually and will change your life, I guarantee it.
Give yourself enough time and compassion
Do I eat another pizza every so often? Hell yes! But this is the difference. Because I eat one here and there, it does not affect my weight. In fact, this makes me want to go back to whole food the next day because pizza is not making me feel good.
And I think this is an important point to drive the house again from my own experience.
Once you notice how great you feel that you are eating real food that nourishes you and your cells, you no longer want to eat processed rubbish. Weight loss takes some time to achieve so you have to be patient with yourself. If you have a “bad day”, show yourself a little compassion.
We all have bad days where we eat something that is probably not so big for us. On my journey, I made sure that I ate 75% – 90% whole food. I believe that consumption in this way creates a new normal body your body awaits and gets used to.
These days, 90% of my “diet” is the whole food.
So how long did it take until I felt I really turned a corner? I would say …
- On the 3 month sign, I was still struggling and probably eating too much every day in terms of carbohydrates and potato chips
- I felt good for 6 months and as if the persistent weight was coming out. I reduced processed food even more and focused on 75% whole food on every meal
- After 12 months I finally felt as if I had control of the food I ate. Wrecies for the trash left completely and I stopped snack in typical “pleasures” between meals
How do I feel now?
Today I feel like I have more control over what I eat. It was a long journey, but a worthy again, it wasn’t all to lose weight. I feel better in myself. I have more energy and sleep better than I ever have before. Resetting the weight of your rhythm seems to be possible. I have seen how my body wants to stay on the same weight. It seems that after several months, your body adapts to your new lifestyle and is quite empowering to notice. The further you go, the more your body adapts.
It is reinforced to me the idea that you become what you pay for. If you are aware of what you eat, you will become healthier. If you are aware of how much you use your muscles, you will become and remain strong. If you are aware of thought positively, you will feel more positive.
The human body is capable of major changes as long as you hold on the path.
