What is Kavring?
Kavring is a favorite key element in Swedish cuisine, traditionally enjoyed during holiday and family gatherings, often served with garnishes or spreads. Since my husband is a Swedish and I have spent 30 years to meet this wonderful rich cuisine, I have enjoyed it in many cases. Historically, the rye has been a basic crop cultivated in Sweden and Swedish rye breads, such as Kavring, were developed to last with long winters-more weird, nutritious and made of ingredients available all year long. This modern vegan takes slightly sweet with molasses, no oils and optional salt and is rich in fiber and whole grains. This recipe is very flexible! I have made dozens of variations with this basic recipe. You can replace some of the flour of the whole wheat for oatmeal, almond flour, chickpeas or peanut flour. You can also exchange almonds for chopped walnuts, hazelnuts, peanuts or peanuts. and linen seeds for hemp or chia. Try adding extra spices, such as anise seeds, poppy seeds, fennel seeds or cardamom to experiment with flavors.
Whether you are young in Scandinavian baking or just love a healthy bread, this fast kavring bread is sure to become a go-to! I know it’s a regular feature in our kitchen!

Description
Discover how to make the traditional Swedish Kavring – a dense, damp bread of rye made with whole grains, nuts and seeds. No yeast, no fermentation, no oil. Just mix, pour and bake! Vegan, healthy and tasty.
- Preheat the oven to 350 F.
- Place soy juice and lemon juice in a large mixing bowl, stir and let it sit for 5 minutes. Stir with molasses and mix with a wooden spoon until smooth.
- Add rye flour, 2 cups of wheat flour, almonds, caravan seeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, salt (optional) and baking soda. Stir with a wooden spoon to smooth. Do not exceed, as it will harden the stroke.
- Spray a 9 x 5-inch frying pan with non-stick cooking spray and add a tablespoon of flour all of the wheat. Shake the pan to distribute the flour all over the surface.
- Pour the stroke into the pan and a smooth surface with the spoon. It makes a very tall bread bread, so it will completely fill the pan.
- Place in the oven and bake for 1 hour.
- Remove from the oven, place the pan on a cooling grill for 10 minutes. Remove from the pan by relaxing the sides with a knife. Allow to cool 30 minutes before slicing.
- Makes 16 thin slices. You can cut it into 12 thicker slices, according to your preference.
